Wilcox watch

Chris Wilcox

In the first of a seven-game home stand, former Whiteville High basketball star Chris Wilcox scored a season high 28 points and had 13 rebounds in a 107-102 loss to the Miami Heat last Wednesday. On Friday, the Sonics snapped a six-game losing streak by defeating the Utah Jazz 122-114 in overtime with Wilcox contributing 11 points and five rebounds. The big performance in the Sonic victory came from Ray Allen, who scored 54 points and collected 10 rebounds. Allen became only the fifth Sonic player in history to hit the 50-point mark in a single game. Seattle is now carrying a 14-25 record. The remainder of the homestand includes Cleveland (Tuesday), Milwaukee (Thursday), Denver (23rd), Minnesota (25th), L.A. Clippers (28th).

Derrell Powell’s 27 points leads the way for the Hallsboro boys basketball team in a 79-65 East Waccamaw 2A Conference victory over South Brunswick at Boiling Spring Lakes. Michael Powell and William Pierce each score 15 points for the winning squad while Freddie Chambers adds 14. The win puts the Hallsboro’s conference record at 2-1 and season record at 6-7.
