Chris Wilcox

Chris Wilcox, former Whiteville High basketball All-Stater, recorded a another double-double Tuesday night in helping lead the Seattle SuperSonics to a 101-96 National Basketball Association victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers in Seattle. The 6-foot-10 Wilcox scored 16 points, including 6-of-6 shooting from the foul line, and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Sonics, who claimed their second straight victory and put their season record at 15-25. Wilcox also came up with a team-high three steals. Sonic center Nick Collison also turned in a double-double with 14 points and 12 boards. Sonic leading scorer Ray Allen had another big night with 22 points and 11 assists. LeBron James led Cleveland with 30 points. Seattle will play host to the Milwaukee Bucks tonight,

Gator Trail
50-K Run

The 2007 Gator Trail 50-K Run will be held Saturday, March 24, at Lake Waccamaw State Park.The event will begin at 7:30 a.m. The 50-K run will consist of six circuits of a flat 5.2 mile loop on scenic pine and oak tree-line trails and roads in the state park. The event will begin and end at the Lake Waccamaw State Park visitors center.

Registration fee will be $35 per runner and the deadline for registration will be March 15.

Awards will go to the top three winners in overall, woment, masters, grand masters and season masters. All participants will receive event T-shirts.

Coach Carl Chestnutt’s Nakina High School girls basketball team puts its season record at 15-1 by rallying for 18 points in the final quarter to overtake Bladenboro 51-46 in a Tri-County 1A Conference girls basketball game at the Nakina gym. Johnnie Smith scores 23 points for the Lady Indians and Tammy Rhodes tallies 16. Bladenboro won the boys game 53-47 despite a 20-point effort by Freddie Clarida and a 10-point night by Evan Gore.
