TABOR CITY -- Bythel Edwin Fowler, 85, died Jan. 1, 2007, in the Loris Community Hospital, Loris, S.C. He was the son of Bythel Worth Fowler and Sanatha Stevens Fowler and was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Final rites were held Friday, Jan. 5, at Inman Funeral Home Chapel with interment following in the Forest Lawn Cemetery. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City handled the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth McKee Fowler of the home; a daughter, Pamela Fowler Underwood of Titusville, Fla.; and a son, William Gregory Fowler of Wake Forest; two brothers, Ralph Fowler of Tabor City, and Neil Fowler of Southport; a sister, Elsie Harrelson of Tabor City; three grandchldren, Diana Conway, Candace Weisner, and Stephanie Ghezzi; seven great-grandchildren, Lauren, Lindsey, Carter Conway, Ethan and Sarah Weisner, Garrett and Nicholas Ghezzi.
MARION, Va. -- Martha Jane Fowler, 78, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2007, at her home. She was born in Columbus County on Feb. 29, 1928 to the late Herbert and Christian Noble. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Lee Fowler. She was of the Baptist faith.
Final rites were held Wednesday, Jan. 3, at the Inman Funeral Home Chapel in Tabor City. Burial followed in Forrest Lawn Cemetery, Tabor City. Bradley’s Funeral Home of Marion, Ga., is handling the arrangements for the family.
Survivors include three sons, Mike Fowler, and Ray Fowler, both of Marion, Va., and Steve Nobles of Virginia Beach, Va.; a daughter, Peggy Housand of Tabor City; 11 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
CERRO GORDO -- Connie H. Hinson, 85, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007, at Columbus Regional Healthcare. He was the son of the late Worthy McKenzie and Lura Mae Strickland Hinson.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, at Cedar Grove Baptist Church, Cerro Gordo with the Reverends Howard Fowler and Thomas Fairfax officiating. Burial will follow in the Chadbourn Memorial Cemetery. Worth-ington Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Green Hinson of the home; two daughters, Peggy Ann Wilson of Chadbourn, and Ernestine H. McLelland of Cerro Gordo; a son, Rudolph M. Hinson of Cerro Gordo; two sisters, Dana Munier and Inez H. Todd, both of Leland; six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Thursday (tonight) from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
NICHOLS, S.C. -- Henry G. McNeill, 87, of the Spring Branch Community died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007.
McNeill was a graduate of Floyds High School and was a self employed farmer since 1940. He also owned and operated Fair Bluff Grain Company. He was a deacon, finance chairman, and Sunday school teacher at Spring Branch Baptist Church for more than 50 years. He was on the board of directors of Horry Electric Cooperative for more than 58 years and had the distinction of having the longest tenure on that board. He served on the Horry County Board of Commissioners for 13 years. He was on the Board of directors of Davis National Bank, Columbus National Bank, Fair Bluff Motors, Spring Branch Grammer School, Floyds High School, Finklea Career Center, Central Electric Cooperative, Horry County ASCS and the Farm Bureau. He also served on the board of directors of Horry Georgetown Technical College.
McNeill was elected to the Horry Telephone Cooperative Board of Directors in 1952. He served as president of the board from 1952-2007 (55 years). He served on the National Telephone Cooperative Association Committee for 40 years. He also served for 27 years as president of the Telecommunications Education Committee Organization.
He was inducted into the South Carolina Telephone Association Hall of Fame. He was awarded the Order of the Pametto in 1999, by then South Carolina Governor Beasley. He had received the Master Farm Family Award, Certificate of Special Congress Recognition Service Award in 2001, NREAC Award for outstanding service. McNeill was a Master Mason and a member of Fair Bluff Lodge # 190 A.F. & A.M. for 60 years.
McNeill is survived by his wife of 20 years, Mary Frances Hodges McNeill of the home; three daughters, Mary Alice McNeill Thompson and her husband Tommy, Evelyn McNeill Waddell, and Peggy McNeill Martin and her husband Gene, all of Fair Bluf; a stepdaughter, Dolores Weitzman of Myrtle Beach, S.C., six grandchildren Allen Thompson, Allison T. Turbeville, Sharon W. Jarvis, J. Eve Waddell, Henry McNeill Martin, and Patrick E. Martin, and 6 great-grandchildren.
Funeral aervices will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, at Spring Branch Baptist Church, burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Meares Funeral Home of Fair Bluff is handling the arrangements.
The family will receive friends at their home 6959 Hwy 76, Nichols until 10 p.m. Thursday and then again until 1 p.m. Friday.

WHITEVILLE -- Elizabeth Jean Idol Hege, 80, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007, at Columbus Regional Healthcare. She was the daughter of the late Kenneth L. Idol and Tarquita Fulton Idol.
Hege was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Whiteville where she was active with the women’s club of the church, and was very devoted to her family.
Final rites will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at the First Presbyterian Church in Whiteville with the Rev. Josh Bowers officiating. The family will have a private burial at the Whiteville Memorial Cemetery. McKenzie Mortuary is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Gerald Dean Hege of Whiteville; foursons, Robert Dean Hege and wife Theresa of Whiteville, Richard Webster Hege and wife Michele of Kiawah, S.C., Benjamin Fulton Hege of Whiteville, and Kennit Royal Hege of Miami, Fla.; two sisters, Alice I. Fitzhugh of San Antonio, Texas, and Tarquita Strachan of North Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a brother, Kenneth Idol of Alexandra, Va.; six grandchildren, Justin Hege, Jenna Hege, Lindsay Hege, Madison Hege, Sam Hege, and A.J. Hege.
Active pallbearers will be Larry Marciano, Don Fish, Ron Krall, Bobby Garrison, Jay Will, Bill White, Ray Thigpen, and Steve Strachan.
Visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 5, at the First Presbyterian Church parlor from 6-8 p.m.

ELIZABETHTOWN -- Gertrude Taylor Smith, 85, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007, at Bladen County Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband, G.F. Smith.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Elizabethtown. Burial will follow in the Elizabethtown Cemetery. Bladen Funeral Home of Elizabethtown is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include a son, Roger Smith of Lexington; and three grandchildren.

CHADBOURN -- Lois S. Lesane died Dec. 29, 2006, at Columbus Regional Healthcare.
Final rites will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 5, First Missionary Baptist Church, Chadbourn with the Rev. Lionel Cartwright officiating. Burial will follow in the Belvue Cemetery. D&A Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Thurman Lesane; a daughter, Joanna Lesane; a son, Wayne Lesane of Staten Island, N.Y.; a sister, Swannie Reaves of Cleveland, Ohio; a brother, Adolphus Lawrence; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Thursday (tonight) from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home and Friday at the Church from noon until 1 p.m.
RIEGELWOOD -- Florence Elaine Camlin passed away peacefully and was reunited with her sweet William on Monday, Jan. 1, 2007, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center. She was born on Aug. 14, 1926, the daughter of the late James Eugene and Pearl Deale Wiggins of Augusta, Ga. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Benjamin Camlin Sr., in 2003.
Camlin was a charter member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Riegelwood and was a member of the Wesley Womens Group. She worked for the Department of the Navy during WWII.
She was a homemaker of three sons, whom gave her years of enjoyment, laughter, excitement, trickery, love, and remembered moments. From your sons: You gave us the foresight that prepared us for the future and the education and entrepreneurial spirit that led to Semoran Florist and Camlin’s Auto Care. You cared for us like a mother is supposed to, teaching us along the way to do the same for the one’s we love. You worried about us as you were molding us into everyday life. We will love you forever Your loving sons.
A grandmother, more affectionately known as “Doll,” of two, Joseph and Stephanie We will always love you and thanks for spoiling us.
Surviving are three sons, William B., Jr. of Riegelwood, James Clifton of Orlando, Fla., and Stephen Wayne and wife Rita of Riegelwood; two grandchildren, Joseph and Stephanie; cousins, Dr. Gordon Walters and Dr. Raymond Walters, both of Augusta, Ga.; three sister-in-laws, Louise Price and Lou Wiggins, both of Greenville, S.C., and Geneva Clapp of Georgetown, S.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews; and her loving friend Betty Walters of Wilmington.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at Wesley United Methodist Church in Riegelwood with the Rev. Bill Altman. Interment will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens in Wilmington.
Pallbearers will be the Masons of Waccamaw Lodge #596. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of A-D-R Fire-Rescue and its neighbors.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church.

WHITEVILLE -- William Gaaron Patterson, 56, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007, in Columbus Regional Healthcare. He was born May 3, 1950 in Robeson County, the son of Annie Belle Sellers Patterson and the late W.D. “Pat” Paterson.
Patterson was a certified dental technician, having owned and operated Eastern Partial Laboratory, Inc. He was a member, deacon and usher of New Hope Baptist Church.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, at New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Roy Walker and Dr. Ray Lundy officiating. Burial will follow in the Columbus Memorial Park. Peacock’s Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.

NAKINA -- Herbert Ruff “Junior” Gore Jr., 74, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2007, in Columbus Regional Healthcare. He was born in Columbus County, the son of the late Herbert R. Gore Sr. and Carolyn Suggs Gore.
