Wilcox watch

Chris Wilcox

While seeing less than 13 minutes of playing time, former Whiteville High basketball standout Chris Wilcox managed only two points and three rebounds in the Seattle SuperSonics 112-88 Tuesday night loss to the Dallas Mavericks in Dallas. The 6-foot-10 Wilcox was relegated to the bench after hitting only one of eight field goal attempts and committing four fouls. The loss dropped the Sonics’ record to 12-20 as they remain in last place in the Northwest Division of the NBA’s Western Conference. Seattle played Wednesday night at Houston. The Sonics will return to their home floor Friday for a match up with the Milwaukee Bucks. They will hit the road again Saturday when they square off with the Golden State Warriors. Steve Moskow pours in 28 points and Carl Cutler chips in 13 for the Whiteville High basketball team as it slips past West Columbus 68-67 at the Central gym. Tommy Davis leads West Columbus scorers with 26 points. The win gives the Wolfpack of first-year head coach Bert Feik a 9-1 season record while Coach Hubert McCleney’s Vikings slip to 3-6. The game is a match-up of two of the state’s most successful 2A programs as Whiteville had won the state title in 1969 and finished state runnerup in 1971. West Columbus had gained the 1970 state championship.
