The East Columbus High boys basketball team defeated South Columbus 76-61 in the championship game of the ECHS Holiday Basketball Tournament on Dec. 28. It was the second straight championship for the Gators in the tournament. Coach Clarence Ganus’ Gator squad had opened tournament play with an 82-62 victory over South Robeson. ECHS seniors Jerry Moore and B.J. Patrick were selected to the all-tournament team.

| The East Columbus High School girls basketball team ran to a 61-36 victory over South Columbus for the championship of the ECHS Holiday Basketball Tournament on Dec. 28. It marked the second straight championship for Coach Karlyn Stephens’ Lady Gators in the tournament. East Columbus had opened tournament play with a 65-55 victory over South Robeson. East Columbus players Taquanna Bress and Jasmine Young were selected to the all-tournament team. |
