Stallion teams
fall to Pender VINEGAR HILL Even though the South Columbus Stallions limited visiting Pender to only three fourth-quarter points, they still came up short Friday night, dropping a 45-44 Waccamaw Conference basketball heart-breaker to the Patriots. The Stallions, led by Derrick Clay’s 17 points, saw their Waccamaw Conference record slip to 0-3 and their season record to 3-8. The win put Pender’s conference record at 3-1. Pender held a 22-20 halftime lead over the Stallions before scoring 20 points in the third quarter for a 42-34 edge. Coach Nathan Faulk’s South Columbus squad dominated the final period, outscoring the Patriots 10-3 only to fall just short. James Vereen scored 13 points for South Columbus. Mike Sutton led Pender’s balanced scoring attack with 11 points. Rayford Hankins and Rainey Harvey each had eight points and each hit two key 3-point shots. The Pender girls went on a 22-point run in the second quarter that led to a 47-24 win over the Lady Stallions. Tasha Holmes scored 14 points and Muriel Seabrooks scored 10 for the Lady Patriots, who put their conference record at 3-1. Amanda Dowe scored a game-high 15 points for Lady Stallion as their conference record slipped to 1-2 and season mark to 3-8. South Columbus has a non-conference road date with West Bladen tonight. The Stallion teams will resume conference play on Tuesday at South Brunswick. GIRLS GAME
