HENRY A. YOUNG III
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. -- Henry A. Young III died July 1, 2007, following a courageous two-year battle with cancer.
He was born in Watsontow, Pa., the son of the Reverend Henry A. Young II and Geraldine W. Young, both deceased. His father was a Pastor Emeritus in Waynesburg, Pa., and worked diligently to build a lovely Baptist church there. Henry had retained his membership in the church. He also served in The United States Navy.
He is survived by his life partner of 47 years, Julian D. Lewis who was born and raised in Whiteville. Julian is the son of Margaret Crowell Lewis and Rone Howell Lewis, both deceased.
He had a deep love of all living things, particularly his love of animals, dogs most especially.
His love, sincerity, and passions will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is now at peace. Prayers by so many friends and family and his Christian Faith sustained him through his illness.
He fought so hard. His bravery was an inspiration albeit a heartbreak. Life without him is incnceivable.
A memorial service will be planned in Florida at a later date.

FAIR BLUFF -- Cecil L. Simmons, 75, died Monday, July 9, 2007, at Columbus Regional Healthcare.
Simmons was a native of Henderson and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He served during the Korean war and was a retired commercial artist.
Final rites were held Thursday, July 12, at Meares Funeral Home with Dr. Ray Lundy officiating. Burial followed in the Sealey-Haynes Cemetery. Meares Funeral Home of Fair Bluff handled the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou Haynes Simmons of the home; a son, Thomas Simmons of Zebulon; a brother, Raymond Simmons of Henderson; and three grandchildren.

NAKINA-- James Curby Reaves, 71, died Sunday morning, July 8, 2007, at Columbus Regional Healthcare.
He was born in Columbus County, the son of the late John Champ Reaves and Minnie Etta Norris Reaves. He was a retired Motor Grader operator with the state of N.C.
Final rites were held Tuesday, July 10, at Nakina Holiness Church with the Reverends Allen Pearson and Buck Parnell officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City handled the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Ward Reaves of the home; a daughter, Brenda “BJ” Edge and husband Benny of Cerro Gordo; a son, James Randy Reaves of Nakina; three sisters, Inez White, Eula Mae Reaves and Latha Jacobs all of Nakina; two grandhildren, James Curtis Reaves and Chasity Nicole Mills and husband Jason; five great grandchildren, Alex Reaves, Autumn Reaves, Chandler Mills, Caden Mills, and Drake Reaves.

CHADBOURN -- Nancy Lee Lewis Walker, 82, died Monday, July 9, 2007, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday (today), July 12, at Chadbourn United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Hines officiating. Interment will follow in the Chadbourn Memorial Cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.
She was the daughter of the late Thomas Smith and Maude Glasgow Lewis.
Survivors include her husband, A. David Walker Jr. of the home; a daughter, Nancy W. Black of Wilmington; sons, Rick Walker of Youngstown, Ohio and John Walker of Winterville; a sister, Martha L. Giles of Davis; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Francis was born in Columbus County, the son of the late Brooks David and Lea Pridgen Floyd. He was a member of Hinson’s Crossroads Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent. He was a member and Past Master of Fair Bluff Lodge #190 A.F. & A.M.
Final rites will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, July 13, at Hinson’s Crossroads Baptist Church with the Reverends Billy Stines and Tim Swaringen officiating. Burial will follow in the Floyd Family cemetery. Meares Funeral Home of Fair Bluff is handling the arrangments.
Survivors include his wife, Verna Lee Collins Floyd of the home; a son, Michael Carl Collins of Fair Bluff; two daughters, Brookie Floyd Redwine and Elizabeth Floyd both of Fair Bluff; a sister, Sue Floyd Dickerson of Fair Bluff; and three grandchildren, Adam Garrett Redwine, Joshua Brook Redwine, and Leah Grace Redwine.

She was born in Columbus County the daughter of the late James and Mary Cannon Gore. She was the widow of Harry Thurston Gore.
Final rites were held Thursday, July 12, at Bethesda United Methodist Church. Burial followed in the churh cemetery. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City handled the arrangements.
Survivors include a daughter, Virginia Faye Morris of Lumberton; a son, Gene Gore of Greensboro; a sister, Evelyn Stocks of Tabor City; four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

LAKE WACCAMAW -- Thomas Lee (Tom) Gass, 63, died Tuesday, July 10, 2007, at his residence. He was the son of the late Millard H. Gass and Elizabeth E. Gunn. He was preceeded in death by his wife, Shirley Chauncey Gass and was a member of Lake Waccamaw United Methodist Church.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 13, at Hillcrest Cemetery in Lake Waccamaw with the Rev. Doug Currin officiating. McKenzie Mortuary Service of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include his daughter, Chauntel G. Eason and husband Chad of Lake Waccamaw; a brother, John Gass of Raleigh; his mother-in-law, Gray Hester Chauncey of Lake Waccamaw; and special family friend, Caroline Wilson of Hallsboro.
