Three county teams headed
for N.C. Dixie Youth O-Zone
Tournament at Richfield

Dixie Youth All-Star teams from Chadbourn, Riegelwood and South Columbus will compete in the 2007 North Carolina Dixie Youth O-Zone (ages 11-12) Tournament, that will open Saturday at Richfield, just north of Albemarle.
The North Stanly DY League is the tournament host.

The eight-team, double-elimination tournament will run through next Wednesday or Thursday.

This is the second year that the state DY O-Zone Tournament is being held. South Columbus won the state title last year in a three-team tournament at Riegelwood.

O-Zone league play utilizes the more conventional rules of baseball, primarily leading off base and attempting to steal during the pitcher’s delivery. O-Zone also utilizes 65-foot bases.
South Columbus will step into tournament play Saturday morning against South Stanly, and Riegelwood will take the field at 2 p.m., against North Granville. Chadbourn will meet Reidsville American at 4:30.

The state tournament winner will receive a berth in the 2007 Dixie O-Zone World Series, that will open July 28 at Troy, Ala.
