Whiteville DY AAAs bounce Reidsville
in second round of state tournament

EDEN - After suffering a 5-3 loss to Oxford in Saturday’s opening round, the Whiteville Optimist All-Stars overcame a 4-1 third-inning deficit to defeat Reidsville 13-4 Sunday in the second round of the North Carolina Dixie Youth AAA (ages 10-under) Baseball Tournament.

Whiteville is scheduled to meet Rose Hill today at 5 p.m., in a third-round elimination game. Rose Hill fell to Leland in a Sunday winner’s bracket game.

Nick Ciamillo hit two triples and Austin Reaves added two hits for the Whiteville squad. Kendal Reynolds had a double.

Dylan Williams, Zack Pait and Reynolds each pitched two innings,

“We hit the ball much better today, and that is reason we came away with it,” said Whiteville head coach Dale Reaves. “We didn’t do what we needed to with the bats in the first game.”

The 16-team double-elimination tournament will run through Saturday with the winner receiving a berth in the 2007 Dixie Youth AAA World Series, which will open Aug. 6 in Madison Heights, Va.
