RIEGELWOOD - Whiteville Optimist and Columbus County are both unbeaten following the first two rounds of play in the District 2 AAA (ages 10-under) Dixie Youth Baseball Tournament.

Whiteville Optimist opened tournament play on Saturday with an 11-1 win over Nakina and came back on Sunday to defeat host Riegelwood 12-2.

Columbus County outlasted South Columbus 11-9 in Saturday’s opening round and topped Bladen County 10-6 on Sunday.

In Saturday’s other opening-round game, Bladen County defeated Chadbourn 21-2.
In other second-round action on Tuesday, South Columbus eliminated Chadbourn 13-1.
Today’s schedule has Bladen County going against Riegelwood at 5 p.m., and Nakina taking on South Columbus at 7. Whiteville and Columbus County will battle in the winner’s bracket game at 9.

The double-elimination tournament will run through Wednesday or Thursday with the winner receiving a berth in the state AAA tournament, which will be played July 14-21 at Eden.
