AGNES IRENE MILLS LITTLE
DELCO -- Agnes Irene Mills Little, 85, went home to be with her Lord and Savior peacefully Sunday, July 22, 2007, at Premier Living, surrounded by her family. She was born Sept. 1, 1921, in Columbus County the daughter of the late David and Missouri Applewhite Mills.
She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Clyde C. Little in 1971. She was also preceded in death by two infant sons and a sister, the late Louise Mills Stone. Agnes was a life time member of Red Hill Pentecostal Church, which was her life. She played the piano and guitar. She was church secretary for many years. She was like a captain of a ship. Agnes went back to school and graduated from Acme Delco High School when she was 70 years old. She also sold Avon for many years. She was very active with Ransom Activity Center.
Final rites will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, at Red Hill Pentecostal Church with the Rev. Calvin Malpass and grandson, Jackie Squires officiating. Burial will follow in the Ellis Cemetery. A Peacock service, Whiteville.
Survivors include a son, Benny Little and wife, Alberta of Delco; seven daughters, Arrie Garrell and husband, Buster, and Daisy Stevens, all of Delco, Carolyn Baker and husband, Cleveland, Hilda Bennett and husband, Fred, all of Bolton, Faye Squires and husband, Buddy, Frances Squires and husband, Alfred Ray, Geneva Ward and husband M.P., all of Kelly; two sisters, Elizabeth Chamber and husband, Ray of Delco, Doris Gooden and husband, Marin of Kinston; two brothers, James David Mills and wife, Elonora of Maco, Bobby Ray Mills and wife, Pearl of Bolton. She was blessed with 21 grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jackie, Brian, and Danny Squires, Lee Powell, Eddie Jacobs, Scott Farmer, Carlos Bullard II, and Stan Grice.
We have been blessed with a very good mother, grandmother and friend. We want to thank our many friends and family that have helped us through our sad time. We also want to thank Lower Cape Fear Hospice for all the loving care they showed our mother, with special thanks to Jackie, Dot, Carey and Kathryn.

RALEIGH -- Richard Leon Davenport Jr., 58, formerly of Bladen County, died Friday, July 20, 2007, at Wake Medical Center. He was predeceased by his parents, Richard Leon and Vivian Davenport Sr. and a brother, Tyrone Davenport.
Final rites will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, at Central Presbyterian Church with the Reverends C.E. Willie III, Ronald Campbell, and Arnold Walker officiating. Burial will follow in the Mitchell Field Cemetery. Bladen Funeral Home of Elizabethtown is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Adra R. Davenport of Raleigh; and a daughter, Sharon Katrina Davenport of Greensboro.

WHITEVILLE -- Mildred Thompson Walker, 91, died Saturday, July 21, 2007, in Columbus Regional Healthcare. She was born Nov. 16, 1915 in Columbus County the daughter of the late Brice and Leola Cook Thompson. She was the widow of the late Garland Hugh Walker. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and was a former Sunday school teacher. She was active in the WMU and Home Demonstration Club. She was a member of the Sunshine Group at First Baptist Church.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Monday (today), July 23, at New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Roy Walker officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends in the fellowship hall following the service. A Peacock Service of Whiteville.
Survivors include a son, Larry Walker and wife, Sharon of Laurinburg; a sister, Margie Gatewood of Omaha, Neb.; a granddaughter, Michelle Merkle and husband, John of Greenville, S.C.; two great-grandchildren, Sarah Merkle and Stone Merkle; special sister-in-law, Kathleen Honeycutt of Whiteville; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Janet Walker and six brothers and sisters.

SUNSET BEACH -- Infant Nathan William Lee, son of James Frederick and Brandy Deanna Grissett Lee died Friday, July 20, 2007. Nathan was born July 7, 2007.
Graveside services were held Sunday, July 22 at the Smith Cemetery, Whiteville Road, Ash. Brunswick Funeral Home of Shallotte handled the arrangements.
Survivors in addition to his parents include his maternal grandparents, Gordon and Debra Grissett of Sunset Beach; his paternal grandparents, James and Lois Lee Sr. of Lees Lake; maternal great-grandmother, Marie Grissett of Sunset Beach; paternal great-grandparents, Billy and Laura Lee of Florence, S.C.; and paternal great-grandmother, Stella Evans of Pireway.

BLADENBORO -- Louise Haywood Evans, 85, died Saturday, July 20, 2007, at Bladen County Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Murray and Bretha Haywood. She was the widow of Lenneau Evans.
She was a dedicated lifetime member of Lennons Crossroads Baptist Church.
Final rites were held Sunday, July 22, at Lennons Crossroads Baptist Church with the Rev. Fred Senter officiating. Burial followed in the Kelly Cemetery on Monday, July 23. Bladen Funeral Home of Elizabethtown handled the arrangements.
Survivors include four sons, Thoams Evans of Loris, S.C., David Evans, Maurice Evans, and Otis Evans, all of Bladenboro; four sisters, Laura Thompson of Bladenboro, Ila Bischoff of Alabama, Jo Johnson of Lumberton, and Pearl Martin of Missouri; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

VARINA, Va. -- Connie D. Barr-Winternitz, 71, passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2007.
She was an artist her entire life and operated Connie’s Artistries in Richmond. She was active in several artistic fields, notably porcelain painting, jewelry, and glass bead making. She was the current president of the Richmond Porcelain Organization, the local chapter of the World Organization of China Painters. She was also a member of the Rappahannock Art League and the Bonaire Artist’s League.
Final rites were held Sunday, July 22, at Nelsen Funeral Home of Richmond, Va.
She leaves a devoted husband, Thomas Watson Winternitz; her mother, Clara Fipps of Clarendon; a sister, Betty Wiedaw of Pinehurst; a brother, Arthur Duncan of Clarendon; her children, Gina Crites of Ash, Christopher Ward and wife Helen of Shipman, Va., Janet White and husband Terry of Ash, and Connie Sue Buckley and husband, Paul Allen of Chester, Va.; stepchildren, Thomas Winternitz Jr. and wife Maureen of Portland, Pa., Dr. Charles Winternitz and wife Sharon of Baltimore, Md., Dr. Sally Winternitz and husband Dr. Matthew Barton of Sequim, Wash.; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, and four step-great-grandchildren.

LORIS, S.C. -- Elbert Powell, 71, of the Mt. Zion community, died Friday, July 20, 2007, at Conway Medical Center. He was the son of the late Charlie Mack Powell and Edith Turbeville Powell.
He was a farmer and co-owner of Powell Septic Tank Company. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
Final rites were held Monday, July 23, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Inman Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Survivors include his sisters, Ila P. Kimbrell of Rock Hill, S.C., Shelva Jean stroud of York, S.C., Lucinda Faircloth and Faye Fowler, both of Tabor City; three brothers, Ervin Powell, Bobby Powell and Dale Powell, all of Loris, S.C. He was preceded in death by a brother, Wendell Powell.

CHADBOURN -- Carl Daniel Ward, 55, died Friday, July 20, 2007, at Columbus Regional Healthcare. He was the son of the late Carl Ward and Darcus Kathleen Ward.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, at Worthington Funeral Home with the Reverends Mitchell Smith and Willard McPherson officiating. Burial will follow in Chadbourn Memorial Cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Gail Smith Ward of the home; three sons, James Caleb Ward, Daniel Clint Ward, both of Chadbourn, and Wesley E. Ward of the home; two sisters, Debbie Kay Hamilton of Cleveland, Tenn. and Judy Watts of Chadbourn; a brother, Joey Ward of San Diego, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

CHADBOURN -- Jacqueline “Jackie” Jean Jordan, 65, went home to be with the Lord after a recent battle with a recent illness on Wednesday, July 18, 2007. She was the daughter of the late Richard Thomas Jordan and Eula Mae Hardee Jordan. She was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
Jordan was a former lifetime member of the Whiteville Church of God and was presently attending the Chadbourn Pentecostal Holiness Church. She worked with Waffle International and Walmart of Whiteville.
Final rites were held Sunday, July 22, at McKenzie Mortuary Chapel with the Reverends Allen Strickland and Richard Robinson officiating. Burial followed in the Western Prong Cemetery.
Survivors include three daughters, Gracie Pinchok and husband Len of East Norriton, Pa., Jacqueline Collins and husband Dale of Mullins, S.C. and Stacy Hunt of the home; four sons, Orlando “Chico” Jiminez and wife Loria of Chadbourn, Rev. Randy Hunt and wife Suzanne of Spring City, Pa., Rev. Brian Wible and wife Jessica of Live Oak, Fla. and John Beattie and wife Jenny of Whiteville; 24 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

EAST ORANGE, N.J. -- Donna Simmons Justice, 58, formerly of Whiteville, died Thursday, July 19, 2007, at Mountainside Hospital in Montclair, N.J.
Final rites will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 26, at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Whiteville with the Rev. David Flowers officiating. Burial will follow in the Campground Cemetery in Whiteville. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, James Justice; a daughter, Monché Simmons of Whiteville; her father and stepmother, Harry and Ruby Simmons of Whiteville; two brothers, Harry Simmons Jr. of Whiteville and Julius Earl George of East Orange, N.J.; a stepbrother, Alton George of St. Joseph, Mo.; three stepsisters, Deborah Gore and Ruth Governor, both of Whiteville, and Bonita Ervin of Alexandria, Va.
Viewing will be at the church Thursday, July 26 from 10-11 a.m., and there will be no viewing after the service.
Friends may visit the family at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Simmons, 422 Ward Street in Whiteville.

CONWAY, S.C. -- Johnell Dawsey Wade, 49, died Tuesday, July 17, 2007, at Doctors Hospital in Augusta, Ga. He was born Dec. 11, 1957 in Loris, S.C. the son of Helen Jones Williams of Tabor City and the late Andrew Jackson Wade, formerly of the Mt. Vernon community in Horry County, S.C. He was a cabinet builder for many years.
Final rites were held Saturday, July 21 at Goldfinch Funeral Home in Conway, S.C. Burial followed in the Hardee Cemetery in the Pleasant Grove community in Loris, S.C.

WHITEVILLE -- Gail Creech Honeycutt, 46, died Wednesday, July 18, 2007, at Medical University Hospital in Charleston, S.C. A native of Columbus County, she was born April 30, 1961, the daughter of Thomas Creech and the late Carleen Barefoot Creech.
