The Columbus County 4 x 100 relay team of (left to right) Dorian Dawson, Marquese Powell, Akimus Rose and Jarquese Powell won the championship of the 13-14 division at last Saturday’s North Carolina Hershey Youth Track and Field championships at Cary. The foursome had also won the sectional championship held earlier at Laurinburg. Rose also took a second place finish in the 100-meter dash and Jarquese Powell gained second place in the 200-meter dash at the sectional meet. See more photos on Page 2B.

Columbus County’s 11-12-year-old 4x100 relay team of Shanella Freedman, Jasmine McIver, Raquandra Barnhill and Frances Menser took first place in Saturday’s North Carolina Hershey’s youth track and field meet at Cary after taking second in the event in the sectional meet in Laurinburg. McKiver won the 100-meter dash in sectional and took second in state, and Barfield took second in the 200-meter dash at the sectional.
