Unbeaten Carquest and Cokley Insurance each came away with Friday night victories to advance to tonight’s championship game of the Whiteville Dixie Youth Minor League Baseball Tournament at Harritan Field.

Tonight’s game will begin at 6 and will precede the Whiteville Optimist DY League Tournament championship game. (See above story).

Hunter Cartette had two hits and Robert Shuette had one hit for Carquest. Turner Brown drove in a run while Logan Butler, Ryan Dudney, Aaron Evans, Caleb Thompson and Tyler had one hit each.

Carquest scored eight of its runs in the third inning.

Cokley Insurance 7
BB&T (Phone 24) 3

Cokley broke open a tight game with three runs in the fourth inning.

Winning pitcher Taylor Smith struck out 12 batters, and Conner Baxter had the lone Cokley hit.

Grayson Ward and Arron Buffkin had doubles for BB&T Phone 24 and Arron Harrelson and Jay Brown also had hits.

In an opening round game that was postponed by rain on Tuesday, Civitans managed to come away with the win behind three third-inning runs. Jarrard freeman had the lone hit for Civitans.

Hunter Harwood homered for Best Western while Cameron Green had two hits. Malik Watson also had a hit.
