Carquest put the finishing touches on an unbeaten season Monday night by defeating Cokley Insurance 8-4 in the championship game of the Whiteville Dixie Youth Minor League Tournament at Harritan Field.
Turner Brown and Hunter Cartrette led for Carquest with their hitting, pitching, fielding a base-running. Each had two hits and each scored two runs. Ryan Dudney had a double and Robert Schuette added a single.
Cartrette was the winning pitcher, getting relief help from Brown in the fourth inning.
Carquest, which tallied four runs in the third inning, finished the season with a 17-0 record that also included the Whiteville DY Minor League regular-season title.
Cokley Insurance, which had also finished runnerup to Carquest in regular-season play, kept things close early as it scored two runs in the top of the third inning to tie the score. Mackenzie Gore, Devanier Lee and Tyler Hyatt each scored a run.
Pitcher Taylor Smith and Trey Harris each had two hits for Cokley. Conner Baxter and Nathan Powell had doubles.
