DENNIS W. REGISTER
DELCO -- Dennis Wayne Register, 59, died Tuesday, June 19, 2007, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
Dennis was born October 27, 1947 in Wilmington, NC, son of the late Raymond Register and Maggie Jenkins Register. Two brothers, Alton Register and Tom Register preceded him in death.
Mr. Register was a member of Riegelwood Baptist Church. He was a kind, loving person and will be missed by all who knew him. Dennis worked as a meat cutter with Harris Teeter for over 30 years. Everywhere Dennis went he always lit up the room with laughter.
Final rites will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 23, at Andrews Market Street Chapel with Rev. Charles Hester officiating. Interment will follow at Riegelwood Baptist Church Cemetery. Andrews Mortuary of Wilmington is handling the arrangements.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Cathy; his son, Dennis, Jr.; two step-sons, Andy Koester and wife, Amanda, and Matthew Koester; step-father, Monroe Butler; and numerous other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, June 22, at the funeral home.

CHARLOTTE -- Myron Delane Greene, 29, formerly of the Freeman community, died Friday, June 15, 2007, in Charlotte.

mother dies
CLARENDON--Dula Bell Simmons, 83, died Sunday, June 17, 2007, at Duke University Hospital. She was born in Columbus County, the daughter of the late Ira James “Barlowe” Simmons and Ola Simmons Simmons. She is the mother of Columbus County’s Clerk of Court Sheila Pridgen.
Final rites were held Wednesday, June 20, at Sweet Home Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne Faulk, Dr. Thomas L. Ward and Anthony Fipps officiating. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Tabor City. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City handled the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Willard Simmons of the home; five daughters, Diane Graham, Brenda Thompson, Sheila Pridgen and Louise Underwood, all of Whiteville, and Lorraine Simmons of Pigeon Forge, Tenn.; two sons, Michael Simmons and Richard Simmons, both of Clarendon; a sister, Mae Mishoe of Lumberton; 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a son, Steave Simmons, husband of Donna Simmons of Clarendon, and a granddaughter, Erika Cartwright.
RUTH S. RIDDICK
OXFORD -- Ruth S. Riddick, 80, died Monday, June 18, 2007, at Brian Center of Durham. She was the daughter of the late Wiley and Ada Shaw of Whiteville. She was a member of St. Peter’s United Methodist Church.
Riddick was a graduate of the former Farmers Union High School in Clarkton. She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from Fayetteville State University. She retired from the Granville County School System after years of dedicated service at Orange Street Graded School, C.G. Cradle Elementary School and Stovall-Shaw Elementary School where she was a former “Teacher of the Year.” She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Hester-Crews Post #166 of the American Legion, North Carolina Retired Teachers Association, AARP, The Garden Club and Gamma Sigma Chapter of Eta Phi Beta Sorority.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 22, at St. Peter’s United Methodist Church with the Rev. Brian Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Meadowview Memorial Park. Wright Funeral Home Inc. of Oxford is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Edward Riddick; two sons, Wade E. Riddick, Suffolk, Va. and Michael A. Riddick of Durham; four sisters, Ernestine Cromartie of Fayetteville, Carrie Troy of Whiteville, Laura Shaw and Ametro Cole, both of Wilmington; and four grandchildren.
Riddick will lie-in-state Thursday (today) from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will receive visitors at the residence.
ILA BULLOCK WRIGHT
TABOR CITY -- Ila Bullock Wright, 98, died Thursday, June 14, 2007, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, Myrtle Beach, S.C.
She was born in Robeson County, the daughter of the late John R. and Elizabeth Atkinson Bullock. She was the widow of Eston L. Wright. She formerly lived in the Vinegar Hill area of Columbus County.
Final rites were held Sunday, June 17, at Inman Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Minos Meares Cemetery. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City handled the arrangements.
Survivors include one son and two daughters, Hilda Wright and husband J. Clifford Gore, Travis Wright and wife Sudie, all of Tabor City, Patricia Wright and husband Tom Adams of Caswell Beach; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Three grandsons and three great-grandsons served as pallbearers.

BOLTON -- Lavita R. Adams, 26, died Monday, June 18, 2007, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington.
Final rites will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 23, at Green Chapel Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Henry Jones Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Restwell Cemetery #1. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include her mother, Mary Pyatt of the home; a sister, Shanta D. Adams of Bolton; and a brother, Darrell A. Pyatt of Bolton.
Viewing will be at the funeral home Friday from noon until 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10-11 a.m. Viewing will be at the church Saturday following the service.
HOMER DEVON INMAN
WILMINGTON -- Homer Devon Inman, 87, died Tuesday, June 19, 2007, at N.C. State Veteran’s Nursing Home in Fayetteville. He was born April 28, 1920 in Rockingham, the son of the late Franklin Devon and
Madge Grant Inman.
Inman formerly owned and operated Homer D. Inman Companies of Wilmington. He served in the United States Navy during World War II, was a member of the Optimist and Toastmasters clubs and a member of New Britton Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Wilmington College.
Final rites will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, June 22, at New Britton Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Inman Cemetery. Peacock’s Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Muriel Ross Inman; three sons, Harold Inman of Brownsville, Texas, Robert David Inman of Fayetteville, Philip Devon Inman of Wilmington; five grandchildren; six brothers, Sam Inman of Shallotte, Silas Inman of Tabor City, Lloyd Inman of Wilmington, Boyd Inman of Ash, Howard Inman of Ash, and George Inman of Ash; a sister, Annie Inman Vance of Brunswick. He was preceded in death by a brother, Aaron Inman.

WHITEVILLE -- William Lawson, 53, died Thursday, June 14, 2007, at Columbus Regional Healthcare. He was a veteran of the United States Army.

JERSEY CITY, N.J. -- Vernell E. McKenzie, 75, formerly of the Mt. Olive community, died Saturday, June 16, 2007, in Jersey City.
Final rites will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 23, at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Whiteville with the Rev. Dr. Timothy Lance officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.

JAMES FAY WILLIAMS,
CSGM USA RET
NAKINA -- James Fay Williams, CSGM USA RET, 78, died Sunday, June 17, 2007. He was born Sept. 11, 1928 in Clarksville, Tenn. the son of the late Roy and Jessie Harness Williams.
He was the widower of Nollor Russ Williams.
Williams served in the Special Forces and as a paratrooper in Vietnam having earned a purple heart, bronze and silver star as well as other commendations. He helped establish ROTC in three schools in Brunswick County and also retired with the Brunswick County School System.
Final rites with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 22, at Peacock’s Chapel In The Pines with the Rev. Ken Barnes officiating. Burial will follow in Peacock’s Columbus Memorial Park. Peacock’s Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include three sons, Tim Williams of Nakina, Kenneth Williams of San Antanio, Texas and Jimmy Williams of Suffolk, Va.; a daughter, LaRue Williams Vaughan of Franklin, Va.; two sisters, Maurine Singleton of Dickson, Tenn. and Lavelle Chase of Clarksville, Tenn.; and five grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, June 21 at the funeral home.
