Whiteville Legion team drops two league games    

The Whiteville Post 137 American Legion baseball team fell to Laurinburg Post 50 by 8-4 score in a Monday night home game and was shut out 4-0 by Fayetteville Post Tuesday night in Fayetteville.

The losses dropped Whiteville’s Area 2-West record to 3-6 at the midway point of its league schedule.

Post 137’s overall record stands at 3-7.

Whiteville will have to finish in the top four of the seven-team Area 2-West standings in order to advance to the league playoffs. It has been eight years since Whiteville last fell short of advancing to the American Legion playoffs.

Whiteville was scheduled to play Wednesday night at Stedman (see results in A-section) and will play host to Hope Mills Friday night at 7 at Legion Stadium.

The Area 2-West League includes Fayetteville, Hope Mills, Stedman, Pembroke, Hamlet, Scotland County and Whiteville.

Fayetteville Post 4 is the defending league champion.
