Staff Writer True Freedom. What does it mean?
To a group in Columbus County, it is a concept that can include, but goes beyond, the laws of the land and the rights of citizenship. It encompasses a spiritual element, and one that will be celebrated in an outdoor concert at the Boys and Girls Home Exhibition Center on Sunday, July 8.
The “True Freedom Fest” will highlight the music of Todd Agnew, Hawk Nelson and Newsong. It will feature evangelist Jamey Ragle, and Tabor City born Matt Jernigan will return home from L.A. to MC the event. Also performing will be the group “Flights from Egypt,” a band largely composed of the children of Newsong members.
The concert is scheduled from 5-9 p.m., and is primarily sponsored by Wayne E. Bailey (WEB) Produce. George Wooten, owner of WEB Produce, says: “My vision to bring Christian music to Southeastern North Carolina started over 25 years ago. Music was a big influence in my life, even when I was lost.
“Now that I am a believer, the music still has the same tune, just a different message and a deeper impact on my soul.”
Tickets are available at itickets.com and local Christian bookstores. For more information, call 654-5595 or visit myspace.com/concertsnc.
Monday’s edition of The News Reporter will feature additional information about Matt Jernigan, performer of “clean comedy,” and others connected with the upcoming concert.
