Whiteville Chiropractic won 14-4 and will meet BB&T tonight at 7:30 in the tournament semifinals. In Monday’s other first-round game, Swing Away defeated Sampson-Bladen Oil 4-3. Swing Away will take the field against regular-season champion News Reporter tonight at 6 in the other tournament semifinal. The championship game will be played on Monday, June 11, at 7:30 p.m. In the minor league tournament, Tuesday night’s storm allowed only game to be played as BB&T Phone 24 defeated Carolina Respiratory 17-1. The second game, which has Best Western going against Civitans, has been set for tonight at 6 at Memorial Field. Minor league tournament semifinals are scheduled for Friday night with finals set for Monday, June 11, at 6 p.m.

Whiteville Chiropractic,
Swing Away take wins
in opening round of
Optimist DY tourney

Third-seeded Whiteville Chiropractic cruised to a 14-4 victory over Sunshine Cleaners, and fifth-seeded Swing Away knocked off fourth-seeded Sampson-Bladen Oil 5-4 Monday night in the opening round of the Whiteville Optimist Dixie Youth Baseball Tournament at Optimist Park’s Harritan Field.

Tonight’s semifinal action will have Swing Away going against regular-season champion News Reporter at 6, and Whiteville Chiropractic facing off with regular-season runnerup BB&T at 7:30. Tonight’s winners will clash on Monday, June 11, at 7:30 p.m., for the tournament championship.

Sunshine Cleaners 4

Sunshine Cleaners jumped to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning behind a big three-run homer by Trey Caffee.

Whiteville Chiropractic battled back quickly with four runs in the bottom of the first inning and added five more in the second inning.

Winning pitcher Derrick Nobles blasted a home run and a single and scored three times to lead Whiteville Chiropractic, and Bronson Best also had two hits. Also getting hits were Scottie Deans, Zack Brown, Adam Murrell, Kendall Reynolds, Casey Morris and Brett Council. Jonathan Hewitt and Josh Basubas each scored a run.

Also getting hits for Sunshine Cleaners were Justin Turner, Derrick Sellers and Byron Leggett, Clark Owens and Seth Spivey each scored a run.

Swing Away 4
Sampson-Bladen Oil 3

The game ended when Swing Away cut down Sampson-Bladen’s effort for the game-tying run on a tag-out at homeplate.

Swing Away managed only two hits while taking advantage of 12 walks.

Shane Snyder drove in the game-deciding run with a fifth-inning single and Cage Deal had the other Swing Away hit. Eddie Shipman scored a pair of runs, Josh Hines scored one run, and Jeremy Rasberry and Chandler Simmons each had a run batted in,

Luke Pait ripped a triple for Sampson-Bladen and Matthew Rhodes walloped a double. Sam Jacobs and Samantha Bass each had a single, and Weston Chandler scored a run.
