Charlie Gore’s 4-for-4 effort paced an 11-hit attack by the Whiteville Wolfpack Tuesday as it opened its 2007 baseball season with a 10-0 victory over the visiting East Bladen Eagles.
The game was halted in the fifth inning by the 10-run rule when an infield dribbler by Gore scored Ian Hooks from third base with the game-ending run.
A two-run double by Gore followed by a two-run homer by Lloyd Enzor were big blows in the Wolfpack’s six-run second inning.
Winning pitcher Robbie Penny, Ben Deans and Trey Nye also had doubles.
Deans had two hits while Enzor drove in another Wolfpack run with a sacrifice fly.
Also getting WHS hits were Tyrone McKoy and Jerrod McKinney.
Penny pitched the first three innings for Whiteville, striking out eight batters while yielding two hits and walking two.
Freshman Beret Proctor pitched the final two innings, giving up two hits and walking two.
East Bladen senior shortstop Tripp Lancaster had two of the Eagles’ hits, including a double. Jamie Warren was the losing pitcher.
Whiteville, the defending Waccamaw Conference co-champion, is scheduled to play Friday at West Bladen. Gametime is set for 5 p.m.
