Rambling with Ann

By ANN WORTHINGTON

I flopped down on my easy chair with a cup of decaf and a serving of hot fudge cake to enjoy while watching a favorite movie on television without much thought about the easy way

I flipped through the channels. I thought about the first television my family owned.

The picture tube was small as compared to some of the giant-size screens I see here and there in today’s world.

I remembered instead of the 100-plus channels we receive these days, we were lucky to receive three channels.

Most of the time it was two, and sometimes we watched through what reminded me of a light, sifting of snow.

No remote controls meant we had a T.V. antenna hooked to the roofs of our houses.

If you were lucky, you would have a control box on the top of the T.V. that could move the outside antenna to the direction that would receive the best reviewing channel.

If you didn’t own one of those little control boxes, a person would go outside and manually turn the antenna.

A person on the inside of the house would holler to the person outside when the picture was clear. Can you imagine having to go through those steps to watch T.V.?

I also remember that to change channels, we had to get up out of our easy chairs and walk over to the television and manually change channels.

This procedure was also followed for the sound. Rain or shine, if you wanted to watch the tube, this was the way it was done.

Also, most televisions were black and white.

We could get the best color on a color T.V. by using the contrast button to tune in on a person’s complexion.

I think sometimes about how spoiled we are. What if we had to get out of our chairs or even bed sometimes just to tune into our favorite show or turn the sound up or down?

With the way advertisements blare loudly, we would definitely get our exercise.

My time is up for now, my friends, so until next time, may God bless you in a special way.

As always, be blessed!
