CLARENDON David Fowler, 73, died Sunday, March 11, 2007, at Woodhaven Nursing Home, Lumberton. He was born in Columbus County, the son of the late William Eilhue Fowler and Molcie Bell Cox Fowler.
Final rites were held Wednesday, March 14, at Inman Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Cartrette officiating. Burial followed in the McPherson Cemetery, Chadbourn. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City handled the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Hardee Fowler of Clarendon; two daughters, Belinda Fowler Barnhill and husband Brantley of Chadbourn, Davene Fowler Garland and husband Rev. Glen Garland of Ashland, Va.; four brothers, William “Cha” Fowler and William Wade Fowler, both of Tabor City; Byron Worth Fowler of Maryland, Andrew Jackson Fowler of Clarendon; two sisters, Carolyn Fowler of Loris, S.C. and Nellie Wright of Maryland; four beloved grandchildren, Todd Barnhill of Chadbourn, Brittany Barnhill of Loris, S.C., Glenn Lewis Garland II and Caroline Grace Garland, both of Ashland, Va.; and a great-grandson, Kegan Suggs.
MRS. ELMER LEE NANCE BROWN
EVERGREEN Mrs. Elmer Lee Nance Brown, 93, of the Macedonia community, died Wednesday, March 14, 2007, at Columbus Regional Healthcare. She was the daughter of the late Emory and Victoria Williamson Nance and the widow of Joseph Wilbert Brown.
Final rites will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 17, at Macedonia Baptist Church with Reverends Vernon Williamson, Mark Brown, and Robert McNair officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include a daughter, Debra B. McNair of Evergreen; three sons, Joseph Brown of Goldsboro, Edsel Brown of Charlotte, and Howard Brown of Evergreen; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
LEONORE VILLAMIL McDONALD CLOUTIER
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. Leonore Villamil McDonald Cloutier died Saturday, March 10, 2007. She was born in Florida, N.Y., the daughter of Dr. Felix Villamil and Mary Fillion Villamil, both deceased. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Col. A.C. McDonald, and her second husband, Dr. Louis M. Cloutier. As was her wish there will be no public service.
When she was a girl, she would often accompany her beloved “Papa” on visits to see his patients. She was one of seven children including brothers Raymond, Richard, and Fernan; and sisters, Mildred, Elena, and Virginia, all deceased.
Cloutier was a reading specialist who loved books and children and taught for many years. She taught at all levels, including community college and university. She was an avid bridge player who achieved the distinction of being a certified Life Master of the American Contract Bridge League.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Friends and family who wish to honor her memory are encouraged to make a donation to the Big Bend Hospice in Tallahassee.
Survivors include her four children, Mary M. Abate of Washington, D.C., Carl B. McDonald and wife Pat of Douglas, Ga., Daniel M. McDonald of Whiteville, and Patricia A. “Pete” McDonald and husband Paul Onkle of Tallahassee, Fla.
She was our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend and she will be missed. We will remember her sharp mind, her devotion to her family, her love of animals and wildlife, her passion for bridge, her lifelong dedication to education, literature and the arts, and most of all, her joy of living.
CHADBOURN J.C. Chestnut, 70, died at Columbus Regional Healthcare.
Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by D&A Funeral Home of Chadbourn.
BLADENBORO Lillie Storms, 96, died Tuesday, March 13, 2007, at her home. Born July 14, 1910, in Brunswick County, she was the daughter of the late Rufus and Docia Edwards. She was predeceased by her husband, James Gordon Storms.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 16, at Galeed Baptist Church with Dr. Mack Roberts and Rev. Bruce Cannon officiating. Burial will follow in Bladen Memorial Gardens. Bladen Funeral Home of Elizabethtown is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include her sons, Rodney Storms and wife, Ruth of Whiteville, Millard Storms of Bladenboro, and Billy Ray Storms of Mint Hill; a daughter, Gracie Storms of Bladenboro; a sister, Dessie Dove of Bladenboro; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, March 15, at Galeed Baptist Church and at other times at the home.

WHITEVILLE Vera Cucksey, 86, died Sunday, March 11, 2007, at Premier Living, Lake Waccamaw. She was the widow of Robert Bruce Cucksey. Born in Columbus County, she was the daughter of the late Ben and Amanda Beck Faircloth.
Final rites were held Wednesday, March 14, at the Inman Chapel with the Reverends Joe B. Faircloth and James Howard Nobles officiating. Burial followed in the Forest Lawn Cemetery, Tabor City. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City handled the arrangements.
Survivors include a son, LeRoy Barnhill of Whiteville; a brother, Rev. Joe B. Faircloth of Conway, S.C.; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Virginia Elease Ward; and a son, Jerry Devon Barnhill.
WHITEVILLE Purdie James Vereen, 44, died Friday, March 9, 2007, in Whiteville.
Final rites were held Tuesday, March 13, at Brunswick-Waccamaw Baptist Association Building with the Rev. James Scott officiating. Burial followed in the Cherry Grove Cemetery. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville handled the arrangements.
Survivors include a daughter, Shanta Shipman of Whiteville; a son, Antane Menser of Fayetteville; his mother, Lou Ellen Vereen of the home; six sisters, Frances Hernandez, Dianne Castillo, Blondell Faulk, Teresa Vereen, and Evalena Fulton, all of Whiteville, and Shirley Lathan of Youngsville; a brother, Joe Lee Vereen of Whiteville; and a granddaughter.
CLARKTON Joseph Leroy McKee, 95, died Monday, March 12, 2007, at his home. He was a veteran of the United States Army.
Graveside service washeld Tuesday, March 13, at McKee Cemetery. Bladen Funeral Home of Elizabethtown handled the arrangements.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lucille Suggs and Ruby James.
