Wolfpack boys, Cougar girls take track victories
VINEGAR HILL - The Whiteville High School boys track and field team grabbed five first-places and made use of its strength in the depth department to come out on top in the point standings of a four-team Waccamaw Conference track and field meet Thursday at the South Columbus High School track. The Whiteville boys tallied 104 points, followed by East Columbus with 80, South Brunswick with 69 and host South Columbus with 49. In the girls division, South Brunswick used its strong distance running corps to score 119 points to come away with the top spot in the team standings. East Columbus took second with 78 points, followed by South Columbus with 69 and Whiteville with 49. The WHS boys team got first places from Josh Lennon in the discus throw, Alex Royal in the long jump, David Mosley in the 200-meter dash, Powell in the 400-meter dash and its 4x100-meter relay team. East Columbus first places were turned in by Charles Manning in the shot put , M. Hansford in the 100-meter dash and Edward Patrick in the 300-meter hurdles, and also won the 4x200 relay. First places for South Columbus came from Lee Hemingway in the triple jump and T.J. Richardson in the 110-meter hurdles. The East Columbus girls were paced by Jasmine Young who claimed the long jump with a staggering effort of 17 feet, 10.5 inches and also won the 100-meter dash. The Lady Gators’ Jasma Miles won the 110-meter hurdles, and Reniesha Baldwin claimed the 200-meter dash. Young, Miles and Baldwin teammed with Ashley Bracey to win both the 4x200 and 4x100 relay events. Getting first places for the South Columbus girls were Ryci Tisdale in the shot put an discus, and Williams in the triple jump. Results follow: BOYS Shot Put: Manning (EC), 38-11.
