| Vikes beat Devils
CERRO GORDO Stephen Nealy held Red Springs to only one hit over the final six innings and struck out 11 batters in the West Columbus Vikings’ 6-2 Southeastern 1A-2A Conference baseball victory over the visiting Red Devils on Tuesday.
West Columbus snapped a 2-2 with four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Kenyarta Smith and Corey Duncan each had two hits for Coach Ricky Young’s Vikings, who put their conference record at 2-0. Bradley Cutrell and Matt Russell also had WCHS hits.
Nealy yielded three Red Springs hits in the first inning when the Red Devils scored both their runs. He was well in control the rest of the way.
Red Springs committed eight errors.
West Columbus, the defending Southeastern Conference champion, will travel to play conference rival St. Pauls on Friday at 5 p.m. On Saturday, the Vikings will face Waccamaw Academy at 11:30 a.m., at Coastal Federal Field in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
