Columbus Dixie Softball
sets ‘Opening Day’ event
Saturday at Riegelwood

The three fields at the Riegelwood Community Center will be a mecca for girls softball this weekend with the official opening of the 2007 Columbus County Dixie Girls Softball League.
The league is sponsored by the Columbus County Department of Parks and Recreation.

Dixie Girls Softball, which had been played in Columbus for more than 30 years, includes Darling (ages 6-8), Angel (9-10), Ponytails (11-12), Belles (13-15) and Debs (15-16).

A full schedule of games in all five divisions will be played as action will begin Friday evening and run through Sunday.

Dixie Girls Softball began in Columbus County in 1976. Over the past 31 years, numerous Columbus County All-Star teams have advanced to World Series play.
