BRUNSWICK -- Hampton “Hamp” Harden Jarman, 87, died Friday, May 11, 2007, at Columbus Regional Healthcare. He was born in Pollocksville, the son of the late Samuel Milton and Sallie B. Ellis Jarman.
Jarman was a member of Brunswick Baptist Church. He worked with Faulk Plumbing Company in Garland until retirement. He co-owned and operated Lena’s Antiques and Old Furniture.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 14, at Peacock’s Chapel In The Pines with the Rev. Clyde Coates officiating. Entombment will be in Columbus Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Survivors include his wife, Lena Blackman Jarman; four daughters, Marguerite Jarman Vinson and husband, Jerry of New Bern, Phyllis Jarman Jones of Brunswick, Shirley Jarman Moore of Wilmington and Betty Jarman Lewis and husband, Marty of Whiteville; two brothers, Hugh Jarman of Philadelphia, Pa. and Bennie Lee Jarman of Charleston, S.C.; a sister, Sally J. Englehart of Wilmington; nine grandchildren, Michelle Eborn, Timothy Cox, Scarlet Jones, Garrett Jones, Chris Moore, Tiffany Moore, Jennifer Moore, Kellie Simkins and Stephanie Peshoff; and nine great-grandchildren.

TABOR CITY -- Bobbie Jo Edwards, 19, died Thursday, May 10, 2007, in Wilmington. She was born in Marion County, S.C., the daughter of Bobby W. Edwards and Jennifer Norris Edwards.
Edwards was a graduate of South Columbus High School, Class of 2006, and a freshman at UNCW in Wilmington.
A memorial service was held Monday, May 14, at St. Paul United Methodist Church with the Reverend Jerome Smith and Robert Ray and Dr. David Coleman officiated. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City handled the arrangements.
Survivors include her parents, Bobby and Jennifer Edwards of Tabor City; maternal grandparents, Pearl N. Strickland of Tabor City; and paternal grandfather, Grover Edwards of Cerro Gordo.
TABOR CITY -- Elizabeth Ann Fowler, 57, died Friday, May 11, 2007, at her home. She was the daughter of Reba Williamson of Tabor City and the late Grover Edward Williamson.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 14 (today), at Myrtle Green Cemetery in Tabor City. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City is handling the arrangements.
Survivors other than her mother include her husband, Larry Fowler of the home; a son, Rody Wayne Fowler of Loris, S.C.; a daughter, Christy Michelle Hart of Glenn Rose, Texas; a brother, Ronnie Williamson of Tabor City; two sisters, Deborah Hathaway of Tabor City and Lois Nichols of Lexington, Tenn.; and two grandsons.

DUNCAN
BRUNSWICK -- Claire “Peggy” Porter Duncan, 64, died Saturday, May 12, 2007, at Columbus Regional Healthcare. She was the daughter of the late Eugene Porter and Ina Jolly Porter.
Duncan was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Whiteville and retired as a food stamp supervisor with the Department of Social Services.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, at First Presbyterian Church in Whiteville with the Reverends Josh Bower, Paul D. Woodall Jr. and Dr. Edward L. Moore Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Chadbourn Memorial Cemetery. McKenzie Mortuary of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, DeLane Duncan of Brunswick; two sons, Chris Duncan and wife Kim of Hickory, and Mike Duncan and wife Jackie of Chadbourn; two brothers, Eugene Porter Jr. of Fuquay-Varina, and Terry Porter of Whiteville; three grandchildren, Kaitlen Duncan, Jenna Duncan and Laney Duncan.
Pallbearers will be Kirk Clark, Chucky Cribb, Matt Hinson, Ward Moore, Don Ragavage, and Jamie Sellers.
Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Monday (tonight) at the funeral home.

KELLY -- Lorin “Sonny” Newton Ward, 68, died Saturday, May 12, 2007, at Bladen County Hospital in Elizabethtown. He was the son of the late William Albert and Mildred Baldwin Ward.
Ward was a member of Natmoore Baptist Church and retired from International Paper Company after 38 years of employment.
Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Pridgen of Shallotte; three daughters, Cheryl Powell of New Bern, Gale Green of Kelly, and Margaret Hinson of Whiteville; a son, William “Tac” Edward Ward of Hallsboro; two stepsons, Allen Thomas and Jeffrey Thomas, both of Wilmington; two sisters, Miriam Bush of Washington, D.C. and Sylvia McCarley of Fayetteville; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
HALLSBORO -- Rev. Annie Stephens, 88, died Friday, May 11, 2007, at Premier Living of Lake Waccamaw.
Final rites will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 17, at Mt. Hebron AME Zion Church with the Rev. Maria Lacewell officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Hebron Memorial Park, Hallsboro. Smith Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include her children, Douglas Stephens of East Orange, N.J., Albert Stephens of Norwalk, Conn., Annie Rose Stephens of the home, Quincy Stephens of Smithfield, and Clarence Stephens of Bridgeport, Conn.; a brother, Ardell Shaw of Philadelphia, Pa., a sister, Rona Pierce of Philadelphia, Pa.; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be on Wednesday, May 16 from 1-8 p.m. at the funeral home and on Thursday one hour prior to the services at the church and following the service.
HALLSBORO -- George W. Frink Jr., 82, died Thursday, May 10, 2007, in Premier Living. He was born Aug. 4, 1924 in Columbus County, the son of the late George W. Frink Sr. and Elva Jackson Frink.
Frink was a veteran of World War II having served in the United States Navy. He was a hog farmer and an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of Hallsboro United Methodist church.
Graveside service was conducted Saturday, May 12, at Peacock’s Columbus Memorial Park with the Rev. Willie Allen officiating. Peacock Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Hinnant Frink; a daughter, Margaret Frink of Hallsboro; a sister, Betsy Frink Adams of Hilton Head, S.C.; and three grandchildren.
ELIZABETHTOWN -- Ida Mae Betts Williams, 81, died Saturday, May 5, 2007, in Durham.
Final rites were held Saturday, May 12, at St. John AME Zion Church with the Rev. Jimmy Melvin officiating. Burial followed in the St. John Cemetery. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville handled the arrangements.
Survivors include a son, Fintress George Jr. of Paterson, N.J.; her father, Sam Lewis of Clarkton; five sisters, Mary Ann Hall of Bladenboro, Sarah Palmer of Durham, Lucille Smith of Clarkton, Ruby Harvey of Durham, and Margaret McKoy of Elizabethtown; four brothers, Jimmy Troy of Whiteville, William Betts of West Palm Beach, Fla., Sam Lewis Jr. of Clarkton, and Edward Lewis of Roxboro.
RIEGELWOOD -- Erma Graham, died on Thursday, May 10, 2007.
Final rites will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, at Tabernacle Believers Holiness Church with Elder Henry Epps Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Smith Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include her daughter, D. Yvette Thompson of Charlotte; three brothers, Robert Graham of Asheboro, Oneal Graham of Riegelwood, and Julius Graham of Woodbridge, Va.; and a sister, Shirley Vaughn of Fayetteville.
Viewing will be held from 1-8 p.m. Monday (today) at the funeral home chapel, and one hour prior to the services at the church. There will be no viewing after the services.
WHITEVILLE -- Hilda Arp Cartrette, 59, died Saturday, May 12, 2007, at her home. She was born in Columbus County, the daughter of the late Joe and Janet Soles Arp. She was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
Survivors include by two daughters, Tammie Anderson and Pamela Ward, both of Whiteville; a sister, Patricia Arp Benton of Lake Waccamaw; four grandchildren and one great-grandson.

BLADENBORO -- Lillie Bell Callihan, 88, died Thursday, May 10, 2007, at Southeastern Regional Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Gray Callihan.
Final rites were held Sunday, May 13, at Bladen Funeral Home with Rev. Kenneth E. Smith II officiating. Burial followed in Pinecrest Cemetery, Bladenboro. Bladen Funeral Home of Elizabethtown handled the arrangements.
Survivors include two sons, Wilbur Callihan of Bladenboro and Willard Callihan of Lumberton; five daughters, Vivian Callihan of Oak Island, Lillian Blackmon of Holden Beach, Gladys Lockamy and Barbar Strickland, both of Bladenboro, Brenda Crusenberry of Fredericksbury, Va.; two sisters, Retha Piggott of Charlotte and Louise Matheson of Chadbourn; 16 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchlidren.
CHADBOURN -- Elbert McNeil McPherson, 72, died Tuesday, May 8, 2007, at Premier Living, Lake Waccamaw. He was born in Columbus County, the son of the late Ernest and Dollie Garrell McPherson.
McPherson retired from National Spinning Company Inc. with more than 30 years of service.
Final rites were held Friday, May 11, at Beaverdam Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Jackie Godwin officiating. Burial followed in the McPherson Cemetery, Chadbourn. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City handled the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Eloise H. McPherson of Chadbourn; two brothers, Robert McPherson of Clarendon, Jerome McPherson of Whiteville; two sisters, Mavis McPherson High of Chadbourn, and Linda Faye McPherson Watts of Thomasville.
WHITEVILLE -- Michael McKenzie, 52, died Saturday, May 12, 2007, at his residence.

WHITEVILLE -- Lydia Myrtle Ward Stevens, 85, died Sunday, May 13, 2007, at Columbus Regional Healthcare. She was the daughter of the late Johnny and Lillie Mae Gore Ward and the widow of Hubert Stevens. She was also predeceased by a daughter, Patricia Stevens Ivey.
Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn.
Survivors include two sons, Phillip and Larry Stevens of Whiteville; a daughter, Phyllis S. Newman of Albuquerque, N.M.; a sister, Dora Mercer of Chadbourn; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
ANDREWS, S.C. -- Ernestine Grace Elliott Blanton Johnson, 77, died Thursday, May 10, 2007, at McLeod Regional Medical Center after an illness.
Johnson was born Sept. 26, 1929 in Horry County, S.C., a daughter of the late Hyman and Grace Stroud Elliott. She was a retired textile worker and a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church.
Graveside services were held Sunday, May 13, at Cedar Creek Cemetery with the Reverends Rusty McAlister and Gordon Graham officiating. Cox-Collins Funeral Home of Mullins, S.C. handled the arrangements.
Survivors include her children, Gwen Blanton of Andrews, S.C., Roy Blanton of Hampstead and Harold Blanton of Florence, S.C.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Carlyene Elliott Causey Alford of Galivants Ferry, S.C., and Clotile Elliott Thompson of Fair Bluff; stepchildren, Ora Mae Allen of Aiken, S.C., Essie Jenerette of Galivants Ferry, S.C., Bruce Owens of Mullins, S.C. and Leston Johnson of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
Johnson was predeceased by her first husband, Odell Blanton; second husband, Robert Johnson and a grandchild.
