Rambling with Ann

By ANN WORTHINGTON

It was one of those lazy Sunday afternoons, when birds kept a chirping tune going and yellow pollen sprinkled down in an invisible mist that, even though one could not see the pollen, we allergic people could definitely feel its presence.

But I didn’t care because I was too lost in my world of memories once again.

Sitting in my favorite spot on my porch with a good book in hand, I thought about how much my mom liked to read. It seemed she could lose herself in a book of any kind.

I remember when she heard that Columbus County was going to get something very special for the people living in the rural areas. It was the bookmobile. She was so excited.

I remember she purchased a buggy that she could roll along and fill with at least 30 books. She did just that each time the bookmobile came to our area. She spent as much time as possible checking for just the right book that would hold her attention and concentration.

The librarian on the bookmobile finally learned the types of books she most liked to read, and most of time when mom would climb aboard that roving library, the librarian would already have a whole bunch of books ready for Mom to check out, and she was so appreciative.

I thought about all the nice things our county furnishes for us to enjoy, such as the senior citizens centers, transportation, and a host of things too numerous to mention, but they are ours just for asking and applying.

The one thing I was most grateful for was that my mom was handicapped to a certain extent, and it was difficult for her to climb aboard the bookmobile.

The bookmobile’s librarian was most considerate of my mom’s inability to move and climb steps as well as some of us, so that was why she began to pick books she thought my mom would like.

I’m sure she didn’t realize the impact her thoughtfulness had on just one handicapped person, but maybe she did, at least I hope so.

As I sat there reading my book in the sunshine, I once again rambled back to the early mornings when I would run over to my mom’s house and she would be reading a book.

But not just any book. She would be having her devotion, and the book was the Bible.

Today, that little Bible has a special place in my den, and like her, I like to have my devotion from this special book.

Well, my friends, once again I see that I am running out of space, so until next time, may all your worries be few and your blessings many.

As always, be truly blessed.
