| Post 137 to open home schedule tonight against Fayetteville Post 4 The Whiteville Post 137 American Legion baseball team has hit the ground running with its 2007 schedule. Coach Brett Harwood’s Whiteville team played its season opener Wednesday night against Hamlet Post 49 at the Richmond Senior High field (see result in A-section), and it will open its home schedule tonight at 7 when it will entertain defending Area 2-West champion Fayetteville Post 4. On Friday, the Whiteville Legion team will travel to Laurinburg to take on Scotland County Post 50 at 7 p.m., at the Scotland High School field. On Sunday, Post 137 will travel to Wilmington’s Hardee Field where it will play two games in a four-game schedule involving Wilmington Post 10 and two teams from Florida. Harwood, who coaches the Whiteville High baseball team, heads into his fifth season as Post 137 American Legion coach. His won-loss total through his first five seasons stands at 66-46 and includes the 2003 Area 2 championship. Last season, Whiteville Post 137 turned in a 14-13 record while advancing to the Area 2-West finals. The majority of this year’s Post 137 squad is made up of players from Whiteville High’s Eastern 2A regional finalist, along with some players from South Columbus, East Columbus, West Columbus and West Brunswick.
