Silent(?) Wolf
Although he is known as “The Voice of the Wolfpack,” Don Harritan (right) accepts the 2007 Whiteville High School Silent Wolf Award from WHS principal Kyle Ramey at last Thursday’s Wolfpack Athletic Banquet. The award goes annually to an individual from the community who provides outstanding “behind the scenes” service to the WHS athletic program. Harritan, a retired teacher, coach and principal in the Whiteville City Schools system, has for most of the past two decades served as public address announcer at WHS football and baseball home games, and he continues to assist the school’s athletic department in several other capacities. He is also an instrumental figure in the Whiteville Optimist Dixie Youth Baseball League as evidenced by the fact that he arrived at the banquet in his umpire attire. Also pictured is WHS assistant principal Rob Conway.
