OBITUARIES

REV. JAMES GARLAND
BORDEAUX

LUMBERTON -- Rev. James Garland Bordeaux, 81, son of the late Monroe and Bonnie Bordeaux, born July 4, 1925 died on May 3, 2007 at Southeastern Regional Medical Center.

Rev. Bordeaux was a Southern Baptist minister and pastor for more than 50 years. His pastorates included Prosper Mission, White Lake, Natmore, White’s Creek, Mt. Zion, Moon’s Chapel and Pleasant Hope, all in North Carolina. He sang Southern Gospel music for a number of years in the Wilmington area with the Silver Star Quartet.

Rev. Bordeaux was a World War II veteran of the United States Navy. He served under extreme circumstances in the Pacific arena, especially nearly losing his life in a mission in which his ship was torpedoed in the Philippines.

To know Rev. Bordeaux was to know him as a man of dignity, integrity and honesty. He was loved by many, but especially by his wife and sons.

Rev. Bordeaux was married for 57 years to the love of his life, Pauline Hardee Bordeaux. They had two sons with loving families. His eldest son, Dr. C.J. Bordeaux and wife, Donna and sons, Jeremy and Jackson and his youngest son, Rev. Darrell J. Bordeaux and wife, Terry and daughters, Leah and Rebekah. He also has a sister, Sylvia Moore.

Final rites were held Saturday, May 5, at Floyd Memorial Chapel with Reverends C.J. Bordeaux and Darrell Bordeaux officiating. Interment followed in Floyd Memory Gardens in Lumberton. Floyd Mortuary of Lumberton handled the arrangements.

FRANK JAMES JONES

CLARKTON -- Frank James Jones, 38, died Saturday, at Bladen County Hospital, Elizabethtown. He was the son of the late Charles Burris Turbeville.

Final rites will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, at Worthington Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Burst officiating. Burial will follow in the Weyman Methodist Church Cemetery, Riegelwood. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Kristi Lynn Justice Jones of the home; daughters, Kristin Jones and Brittney Jones, both of the home; his mother, Betty Williams Turbeville of Clarkton; sisters, Linda Jones of Clarkton and Shirley Turbeville of Abbottsburg; brothers, Johnny Ray Williams of Chadbourn and Craig Turbeville of Clarkton.

Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Monday (tonight) at the funeral home.

TONYO REGAN BROWN

LELAND -- Tonyo Regan Brown, 17, died Saturday, May 5, 2007, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington.

Final rites will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, at Mt. Hebron AME Zion Church, Hallsboro with the Rev. Maria Lacewell officiating. Burial fill wollow in the Mt. Hebron Memorial Park. Union Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include his mother, Erica Kemp Brown; his father, Donald Brown; three sisters, Ennettee Kemp, Jamica Kemp, and Jomaka Brown; four brothers, Donald Nathaniel Brown, Donald Brown III, James Brown, and Dajon Brown.

Viewing will be held on Friday, May 11 from 1-7 p.m. at the funeral home and on Saturday one hour prior to the services, no viewing afterwards.

EDGAR LEALAND FOWLER

SUPPLY -- Edgar Lealand Fowler, 67, died Friday, May 4, 2007, at Premier Living, Lake Waccamaw. He was the son of the late Sam Porter Fowler and Eva Gore Fowler.

Final rites were held Sunday, May 6, at Inman Chapel with burial following in Bethel Memorial Cemetery. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City handled the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Clifton of Holden Beach; a daughter, Sandra F. Keener of Conover; a son, Joe Fowler of Morganton; a sister, Jeanene F. Tompkins of Carolina Shores; a brother, Robert A. Fowler of Catawba; three stepsons, Brian Clifton and Eddie Clifton, both of Whiteville; Ricky Clifton of South Korea; a foster son, Tommy Smith of Raleigh; and seven grandchildren.

DOREEN LOWREY BLUE

CHADBOURN -- Doreen Lowrey Blue, 58, died Saturday, May 5, 2007, at Columbus Regional Healthcare. She was the daughter of the late William Henry Lowrey.

She was a dedicatedvolunteer for 11 years at Building Blocks Daycare in Chadbourn.

Final rites will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, at Mt. Olive Pentecostal Holiness Church in Pembroke with the Rev. Jim Skinner officiating. Burial will follow in Lumbee Memorial Gardens in Lumberton. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include two daughters, Tina B. Vazquez of Chadbourn and Connie Frances Bryant of Belle Glade, Fla.; two sons, Victor R. Blue Jr. and Samuel Waylon Blue, both of Lumberton; her mother, Elzetter Oxendine Lowery of Pembroke; two sisters, Chip Graham of Chadbourn and Dinah F. Fields of Lumberton; two brothers, Kenneth Ray Lowrey of Minot, N.D. and James William Lowrey of Pembroke; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Monday (tonight) at the funeral home.

CURLEY B. HODGIN

NICHOLS, S.C. -- Curlei B. Hodgin, 91, died Thursday, May 3, 2007, at Thomson Manor Nursing Home in Thomson, Ga. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Delbert Hodgin; her parents, Asbury and Minnie Buffkin and eight brothers and sisters.

Final rites were held Saturday, May 5, at Spring Branch Baptist Church with Pastor Walt Cooper and the Rev. Brent Turner officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Meares Funeral Home of Fair Bluff handled the arrangements.

Survivors include her daughter, Eva Mae Lovett of Tabor City; and a son J.D. Hodgin of Thomson, Ga.; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.

PETER W. ‘PETE’
STRICKLAND

RALEIGH/CALABASH -- Peter W. “Pete” Strickland, 67, formerly of Cerro Gordo, died Thursday, May 3, 2007, in Concord. He was the son of the late Bleechie and Irene Green Strickland.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, at Worthington Funeral Home with the Rev. Beaver Greenway officiating. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn.

Survivors include two sons, Bradley Strickland and Christopher Strickland, both of Raleigh; a brother, Douglas Strickland of Wilmington; and a sister, Lorene Sealey of Cerro Gordo.

MARILYN WORLEY GREEN

CERRO GORDO -- Marilyn Worley Green, beloved and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and friend, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, May 5, 2007.

Marilyn was very active in the community and was a master gardener and president of the Cerro Gordo Garden Club. As president, Marilyn was instrumental in placing welcome signs within the city limits of Cerro Gordo. She was also very active as chairman of the Endangered Species for the South Atlantic Region of National Garden Clubs Inc. Marilyn also dedicated time to the Martha Franck Fragrance Garden for the North Carolina School of the Blind in Raleigh, as well as serving on the fundraising committee for the Southeastern Community College Foundation. She was a very active and loyal member of Cerro Gordo Baptist Church, and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was employed by United Carolina Bank for 27 years until her retirement in 1996.

Marilyn is the daughter of Mabel “Blackie” Strickland Ward of Fair Bluff, and the late Ashley Gray Worley.

Final rites will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, at Cerro Gordo Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Piney Forest Baptist Church Cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.

Marilyn is also survived by her loving husband, Edwin Montgomery “E.M.” Green Jr. of their home in Cerro Gordo; a daughter, Sharon Green Singer of Charleston, S.C.; two sons, Edwin M. Green III of Clarendon and Robert Ashley Green of Cary; a sister, Sylvia W. Bittman of Memphis, Tenn., a brother, Micheal V. Worley of Columbus Ga.; and five grandchildren, Matthew, Daniel, William, Katherine and Ashley.

The family will be receiving friends from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8, at the funeral home.

CLARA INEZ HILL GREEN

SHALLOTTE -- Evangelist Clara Inez Hill Green, 56, died Sunday, April 29, 2007, at Brunswick Community Hospital.

Final rites were held on Saturday, May 4, at Shallotte Middle School with Apostle Charles J. Randall officiating. Burial followed in Mulberry Cemetery. Smith Funeral Home of Whiteville handled the arrangements.

Survivors include her husband, Ronald Green Sr.; five children, Dante L. Hill of Peoria, Ill., Ronald Green Jr. and Sharlily D. Green, both of Jonesboro, Ga., Sharonda Green and Katia C. Green, both of the home; eight grandchildren; her sisters and brothers, Lillie P. Gause and Norwood Gause, both of Shallotte, Ruby Gause of Patterson, N.J., Rathell Gause of Longwood, Sandra Price, Glenda Long and Alice Hill, all of Shallotte, and David Earl Butler of Maryland; her stepsisters and brothers, Bobby Hill of Homer, La., George Henry Hill of Shallotte, Joseph Hill of Brunswick, Mabelene Bernard, Anna Hill and Betty Hill, all of Shallotte, Dora Robinson of Supply, and Eddie Hill of Longwood.

LARUE WILLIAMSON

EVERGREEN -- LaRue Williamson, 76, died Saturday, May 5, 2007, at Columbus Regional Healthcare. She was born in Columbus County, the daughter of the late Thurman and Nettie Williamson. She was preceded in death by two children, Joyce Davis and Joel Williamson.

Final rites will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, May 7, at Macedonia Baptist Church with the Rev. Vernon Williamson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Meares Funeral Home of Fair Bluff is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include her husband, Leroy Williamson of the home; a son, Jan Williamson and his wife Debbie of Evergreen; a daughter, Sherrie W. Pelletier of Oak Island; a brother, Bobby Floyd of Evergreen and a sister, Dorothy Branch of Evergreen; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

SHELTON LONG

WHITEVILLE -- Shelton Long, 93, died Thursday, May 3, 2007, at his residence. He was the son of the late Oliver Jackson and Evelyn Crawford Long and the husband of the late Ocie Duncan Long.

Final rites were held Sunday at Worthington Funeral Home with Pastor Ervin Etheridge and Dr. Ray Thigpen officiating. Burial followed in the Chadbourn Memorial Cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn handled the arrangements.

Survivors include a daughter, Mildred Bennett of Whiteville; and six grandchldren.

ELIZABETHTOWN -- Ida Williams, 81, died Saturday, May 5, 2007, in Durham.

BEN LEMUEL NESMITH III

TABOR CITY -- Ben Lemuel Nesmith III, 82, died Thursday, May 3, 2007, at his residence. He was born in Columbus County, the son of the late Benjamin L. Nesmith Jr. and Martha Reaves McGougan Nesmith. He was a retired insurance agent and tax preparer. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corp during World War II.

Graveside services were held Saturday, May 5 at Myrtle Green Cemetery, Tabor City with Dr. David Coleman officiating. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City handled the arrangements.

He is survived by a brother, Frank M. Nesmith of Sunset Beach.

TIMMIE NOBLES

CHADBOURN -- Timmie Nobles, 70, died Thursday, May 3, 2007, at Columbus Regional Healthcare. He was the son of the late Jenkins and Sara Fairfax Nobles and was employed by National Spinning in Whiteville until his retirement in 2005.

Final rites were held Sunday, at Worthington Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Fairfax officiating. Burial followed in China Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn handled the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn N. Nobles of the home; daughters, Elizabeth N. Stacy of Ash and Dixie N. McLamb, both of Cerro Gordo; both of Cerro Gordo; and three grandchildren.

NATHANIEL MOTT JR.

BOLTON -- Nathaniel Mott Jr., 63, died Thursday, May 3, 2007, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center in Wilmington.

Mott was employed by International Paper Company of Riegelwood and was a United States Army veteran.

Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, at Townsend Temple First Born Church with Pastor Lula Mae Webb officiating. Burial will follow in the Townsend Temple Memorial Gardens. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include two daughters, Sonya Young of High Point and Angela Mott of Wilmington; a son, Jason Mott of the home; three sisters, Lillian Mott of Bolton, Josephine Davis of Cary, and Ann Mott of Raleigh; four brothers, Paul Mott of Bolton, Ray Mott of Greenville, Kenneth Mott and Sam Mott, both of New York.

View will be at the funeral home on Monday (today) from noon until 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 a.m. until noon. Viewing will be at the church Tuesday from 1-2 p.m., and there will be no viewing after the service.

EDWARD JAMES FREEMAN

BOLTON -- Edward James Freeman, 87, died Wednesday, May 2, 2007, at Columbus Regional Healthcare System.

He was a veteran of the United States Army.

Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, May, 7, at Townsend Temple First Born Church with Pastor Lula Mae Webb officiating. Burial will follow in the Townsend Temple Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include a son, Dwayne Freeman of the home; and a sister, Addie F. Mosley of Bolton.
