Lenoir beats Southeastern
for Region 10 Division II title

MOUNT OLIVE - The Lenoir Community College Lancer baseball team successfully defended its Region 10 Division 2 baseball championship this weekend with wins of 10-8 and 8-4 over Southeastern Community College Rams at the Mount Olive College field.

Southeastern closed its season with a 23-27 record, including an 0-7 record against the Lenoir squad.

Lenoir, coached by forer SCC head coach Stony Wine, has a 41-12 season record and will open district tournament play in Frederick, Md. The district winnner will advance to the Nartinal Junior College Athletic Association World Series in Millingon, Tenn.

It marked the second straight year that the Rams had fallen to Lenoir in regional playoff action.

In Saturday’s second game of the series, Coach Joey Autry’ Southeastrn squaad held a 4-3 lead in the eighth inning before LCC’s Scott Shields delivered a bases-loaded double.

Southeastenr had 12 hits in its Game 2 effort, including two each by Matt Quick, Justin Creech, Tanner Smith, Cley Carroll and Todd Fisher.

“I know it sounds lilke the same old story, but I can’t be prouder of my boys,” Coach Autry said, “The is such a better effort coming from my guys. We just haven’t had the luck nd plays that (Lenoir) has had and made.”
