SCHS gets No. 1 seed in East 2A playoffs

The South Columbus Stallions have gained the top seed in the East 2A state football playoff bracket after posting an 11-0 regular-season record.

South Columbus, which has won its ninth conference championship in 12 seasons, will play host to No. 16 seed Clinton (5-6) this Friday. As No. 1 seed, the Stallions will hold the homefield advantage through the East finals.

Jacksonville Northside, the only other team in the state 2A playoffs with an 11-0 record, holds the No. 2 seed in the East bracket.

The Whiteville Wolfpack, which tied for fourth in the Waccamaw Conference, will travel to play the Southeastern 1A-2A Conference tri-champion, West Bladen (seeded fourth), in the 2A playoffs. Whiteville (seeded 13th) and West Bladen each have 6-5 season records. Whiteville defeated West Bladen 21-13 in the season opener for both teams on Aug. 17.

East Columbus (5-6), which tied Trask for sixth place in the Waccamaaw Conference standings, holds a No. 12 seeding in the 1AA playoffs and it will visit No. 5 Ayden-Grifton (9-2) in Friday’s opening round.

North Brunswick, with a 9-2 record and a runnerup finish in the Waccamaw Conference, is seeded fifth in the 2A playoffs and will play host to 12th-seeded Tarboro (7-4).

Trask (4-7) has the No. 14 seed in the 1AA playoffs and will travel to take on third-seeded East Bladen (8-2), a tri-champion in the Southeastern Conference.

South Brunswick, which tied Whiteville for fourth in the Waccamaw Conference, has a 6-4 record and holds the No. 12 seed in the East 2AA bracket. The Cougars will travel to meet Richlands (6-5), the No. 7 seed.
