Members of the 1987 state 2A champion football team celebrated the 20th anniversary reunion of that accomplishment Friday with a luncheon at the Interim Healthcare Center banquet room and with a tailgate at Legion Stadium prior to the WHS-South Columbus game. Team members and cheerleaders were recognized during halftime of the football game. The 1987 WHS football squad posted a 15-0 season, defeating the Thomasville Bulldogs 14-12 in the state championship game at Legion Stadium. The reunion also established a scholarship in memory of Natalie Padrick Platt, who was senior cheerleader for WHS during the 1987 football season.
