The South Columbus High School girls tennis team managed to get some payback Tuesday as it went on the road to knock off Waccamaw Conference champion South Brunswick 6-3 in the opening round of the state 2A dual team playoffs. In other state 2A playoff action, Whiteville traveled to Rockingham County to play McMichael and fell 6-3. South Brunswick had beaten South Columbus in two of three matches they played in Waccamaw Conference regular-season play, but the Lady Stallions got another shot at the conference champs when they were bracketed as a wild card team against the Lady Cougars. Coach Nathan Faulk’s SCHS squad won four of the singles matches and two of the doubles matches to advance. Results follow: S. Columbus 6, S. Brunswick 3 Singles: Dori Faulk (SC) def.
