Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20 at the Inman Chapel. Burial will follow in the Forest Lawn Cemetery, Tabor City. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City is handling the arrangements.

WHITEVILLE -- Floyd Johnson Harrelson, 88, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007, at Columbus Regional Healthcare. He was the son of the late Clarence W. and Mary Nance Harrelson.
Harrelson was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army.

Shepherd was a registered nurse and was retired from Shoreland Health Care Ceneter in Whiteville.

WHITEVILLE -- Bruce Pinkney Williamson, 86, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007, at Columbus Regional Healthcare. He was born Aug. 31, 1921 in Columbus County the son of the late Charlie and Bernice Duncan Williamson.
Williamson was a retired deputy with the Sampson County Sheriff’s Department, and formerly was an officer with the Whiteville Police Department, Lake Waccamaw Police Department, Lake Waccamaw State Parks and Halls Fire Department in Sampson County. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Army having served as a S/SGT and MP in Cairo, Egypt.
Final rites will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at Peacock’s Chapel In The Pines with the Rev. Ed Vogt officiating. Entombment will follow in Columbus Memorial Park Mausoleum. Peacock’s Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.

Carter was co-owner of Darryl’s Auto Sales, Inc. in Whiteville. He formerly owned and oeprated Washtenaw County Ambulance Service in Ypsilanti, Mich. and American Towing and Wrecker Service. He retired from General Motors, served in the United States Army and was a member of First Baptist Church in Whiteville.

DELCO -- C. Ray Flynn Jr. died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2007, at his residence. He was born on Nov. 13, 1953 in Wilmington, the son of A. Helene Gainey Flynn and the late Charles R. Flynn Sr.
Flynn was a graduate of University of North Carolina at Wilmington and a veteran of the United States Navy. He was a member of Riegelwood Baptist Church where he was active in Sunday school and choir.

SOUTHPORT -- Leola Coleman Pickerrell, 97, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2007, at Dosher Memorial Hospital. She was a resident of Southport. She was the widow of Charles Dickey Pickerrell, who was the former city manager of Southport and Whiteville.
Mrs. Pickerrell, the daughter of the late Dexter Caswell Coleman and Minnie Lee Hickman Coleman, was born in Selma on Sept. 5, 1910. She attended Meredith College.
Mrs. Pickerrell was a member of Southport Baptist Church and the Volunteers of Dosher Memorial Hospital. She was a charter member of the Southport Woodbine Garden Club and a former member of the Southport Women’s Club. She was a choir member and interval organist and pianist at Southport Baptist Church for many years. She spent her life entertaining others by playing the piano.
A memorial service will be held at Southport Baptist Church on Thursday, Oct. 18, at 2 p.m., followed by the graveside at Northwood Cemetery. Peacock Newnam & White Funeral and Cremation Service of Southport is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law; including Elizabeth Dickey Spencer of Charlotte, Nancy Pickerrell Beskie and husband William Beskie of Wilmington, Becky Pickerrell Howard and husband Robert Dare Howard of Southport, as well as seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She has one living sister, Ida Mae Hobbs of Raleigh.

He is the son of Ethel Godwin of Clarendon and the late Joseph Godwin. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kim Godwin; and two brothers, Garry and Sammy Godwin.

BOLTON -- William “Bill” Franklin Marvin, 68, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007, at Columbus Regional Healthcare. He was born in Harrisburg, Pa. the son of the late Samuel and Bessie Alston Marvin.
Marvin was employed with A.G. Carter Construction Company and Graka Builders. He was a veteran of the United States Army.
Final rites were held Sunday, Oct. 14, at Peacock’s Chapel In The Pines. Burial followed in the Peacock’s Columbus Memorial Park. Peacock’s Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Carrie Moore Marvin; three daughters, Ann Butler of Whiteville, Barbara Adkins of Bolton, Kimberly Moore of Lake Waccamaw; three sons, Ricky Marvin of Riegelwood, John Marvin of Bolton, Timothy Hyatt of Albuquerque, N.M.; a brother, Sam Marvin of Flint, Mich.; a sister, SHirley Gorman of Baltimore, Md.; and 13 grandchldren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Vonda Kay Marvin; and two sisters, Betty Marvin and Thelma Miller.
ESSIE LITTLE
NAKINA -- Essie Little, 93, died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007. She was born in Columbus County Sept. 21, 1914, the daughter of the late Hyman and Beadie Simmons Edwards. She was the widow of Seymour Little.
Little was formerly employed with Park Florist in Whiteville.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, at Peacock’s Chapel In The Pines with the Reverends D.L. Little and Ronald Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in the Peacock’s Columbus Memorial Park. Peacock’s Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include a daughter, Nelda Little Stocks of Nakina; two sons, Tex O. Little of Little Washington, and Danny W. Little of Whiteville; a sister, Dessie Long of Hampstead; 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, David Little; a sister, Selma Hinson; and two brothers, Nuley and Daren Edwards.
The family will receive friends at the home of Nelda and Glenn Stocks in Nakina.
CLEATEOUS B. BLANTON
MULLINS, S.C. -- Cleateous B. Blanton, 72, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007, at Marion County Medical Center. He was born Jan. 8, 1935 in Marion County, a son of the late Helbert and Annie McMillan Blanton and the husband of Anne Phillips Blanton.
Blanton was a retired farmer and a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was a past member of the auxiliary police. He was a member of Trinity Southern Methodist Church, where he served as Sunday school secretary and treasurer for 45 years and served as chairman of the Board of Stewards. He attended Mullins-Marion Freewill Baptist Church.
Final rites were held Saturday, Oct. 13, at Mullins-Marion Freewill Baptist Church with the Reverends Neil Hinson, Jack Strickland, and Sydney Howell officiating. Burial followed in the McMillan Cemetery. Cox-Collins Funeral Home of Mullins, S.C. handled the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife Anne Phillips Blanton; two sons, Jeff Blanton of Mullins and Gregg Blanton of Fair Bluff; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
DANA HARWOOD
WHITEVILLE -- Dana Harwood, 80, died Thursday evening, Oct. 11, 2007, at Columbus Regional Healthcare. She was born Oct. 7, 1927 in Marston. the daughter of the late William C. Green and Cuba Walker Green. She was the widow of Roger W. Harwood. Dana, a loving and beloved mother and grandmother was a devout Christian and a longtime member of the Abundant Life Assembly of God.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, at the Abundant Life Assembly of God with the Reverends Jerry Spivey and Mitchell Smith. Burial will follow in the Union Valley Baptist Church Cemetery. Peacock Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Survivors by two daughters, Brenda C. Harwood of Whiteville, Jan Harwood Turbeville and fiancé, David Edwards of Whiteville; two sons, Arnold Harwood and wife, Vickie of Whiteville and Tommy Harwood of Whiteville; a brother, George K. Greene of Bolivia; two sisters, Ethel Smith of Whiteville and Juanita Tedder of Hallsboro; 10 grandchildren, Chris Hayes and wife Kim, Megan Hayes, Brett Harwood and wife, Karen, Jo Jo Merritt and wife, Amy, Hannah Shawaka and husband, Jamal, Will Harwood, Whitney Harwood, Jaimie Harwood, Tori Dudley and Katherine Edwards; eight great-grandchildren, Brittany Hayes, Aidan Walsh, Hunter Harwood, Jacob Harwood, Victoria Green, Grant Green, Haley White and Chloe White. She was preceded in death by brothers, Archie and Quentin Green.
Serving as pallbearers will be Burris Ward Jr., Billy Ward, Tim Moody, Brandon Spivey, John Beattie, and Gerald Groves.

HALLSBORO -- Ernest Graham Barefoot, 79, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2007, at Premier Living in Lake Waccamaw. He was born in Columbus County June 7, 1928, the son of the late Blanco and Martha Milligan Barefoot.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, at Flynn Cemetery with the Rev. Danny Williams officiating. Peacock’s Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include a brother, Charles Mack Barefoot of Lexington; and a sister, Louise Barefoot Singletary of Wilmington. He was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Jack Barefoot and two sisters, Hazel Barefoot and Carleen Barefoot Creech.

WHITEVILLE -- Terry Wynne Watts Davis, 49, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2007, at Duke Medical Center, Durham. She was the daughter of the late Samuel Quincy Watts.
A graveside services were held Friday, Oct. 12, at Flynn Cemetery, Whiteville with the Rev. Jerome Bullard officiating. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn handled the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Ray Davis of the home; daughters, Cheryl L. Davis of the home and Janice L. Smith of Whiteville; mother and step-father, Eva Lou and Paul Ezzell of Whiteville; sisters, Lorraine Pigott of Aynor, S.C., Sarah Watts of Chadbourn, Judy Jordan of Raleigh, and Barbara Ezzell of Whiteville; brother, Timothy Ezzell of Whiteville; and four grandchildren.

HOLLY SPRINGS -- Glenn Steele Barnhart Jr., 47, of Holly Springs, died Oct. 8, 2007. He was born in Susquehnna, Pa. to Glenn Steele Barnhart Sr. and Georgette Safranek Betikofer.
A memorial service was held Friday, Oct. 12 at the Chapel of Williford Funeral Home. Williford Funeral Home of Fuquay-Varina handled the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Amanda Shuman Barnhart (formerly of Columbus County) and daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Barnhart; parents, Glenn Steele Barnhart Sr. and stepmother, Connie, Georgette Betikofer and stepfather Robert; sisters, Tammy Flora, Jackie Mills and Janet Taylor; brothers, Tom and Larry Barnhart.

HALLSBORO -- Hollis Preston Alford Jr., 65, died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007, at Duke Medical Center in Durham. He was the son of the late Hollis Preston Alford Sr. and Thelma Mae White.
Alford was a veteran of the United States Army and was an engineer with a dredge boat company. He also attended Living Word Worship Center in Chadbourn.
Final rites will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at McKenzie Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Kenny Nance officiating. McKenzie Mortuary of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Blackburn Alford of Hallsboro; five daughters, Stacy Graham, Stephanie Alford and Renee Barrett, all of Savannah, Ga., Holly Coleman of Miller, Ga., and Carolyn Davis of Hallsboro; two sons, Donald Shipman of Whiteville, and Edward Shipman of Hallsboro; a sister, Mary Walton of Columbus, Ga.; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Oct. 17 from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

FAIR BLUFF -- Albert Elton Richardson, 64, formerly of Whiteville, died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007, at Liberty Commons in Whiteville. He was the son of the late Albert Lee Richardson and a veteran serving in the United States Army.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, at Worthington Funeral Home with the Reverends Bobby Cartrette and Robert McNair officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Tabor City. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include three daughters, Sara Dietz of Bolton, Belinda Smith of Nakina, and Mary Alice Richardson of Whiteville; his mother, Gertie Capps Williams of Whiteville; and two grandchildren.

WHITEVILLE -- Annie Belle Edwards Powell, 88, formerly of the Western Prong community, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007, at Shoreland Healthcare & Retirement Center. She was the daughter of the late Horace Edwards and Lula Green Edwards and was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Powell.
Powell was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Whiteville.
Final rites will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial following in the Benevolence Cemetery. McKenzie Mortuary is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Monday (tonight), Oct. 15 from 7 -8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

CLARENDON -- Essie Emeline Fowler, 81, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2007, at Duke Medical Center in Durham. She was the daughter of the late Carlie and Arcie Fowler. She was the widow of Malcolm Mace Fowler. She was preceded in death by a son, Donnie Fowler and a brother, Harvey Fowler.
Final rites were held Sunday, Oct. 14, at the Inman Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverends James Howard and Brooks Sykes officiating. Burial followed in the Ward Cemetery in Tabor City. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City handled the arrangements.
Survivors include two sons, Richard Fowler of Tabor City, and Mike Fowler of Clarendon; a daughter, Nellie F. Wilson of Nakina; three brothers, Tommy, Wade and Cliff Fowler, all of Loris, S.C.; three sisters, Clora Mae Kilmon of Hampton, Va., Mattie Fowler and Myrtle Causey, both of Loris, S.C.; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
