GARY GLENN GORE
WHITEVILLE--Gary Glenn Gore, 50, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2007. He was born Aug. 28, 1957 in Columbus County, the son of the late Curtis Robert Gore Jr. and Doris Memory Gore.
Gore was employed with Georgia Pacific Corporation with 32 years of service. He was Scoutmaster of the Boy Scouts of America Troop 509 for 20 years.
He was also a volunteer for several years with the Whiteville Fire Department.
Final rites will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, at Peacock’s Chapel In The Pines with the Rev. Corey Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Peacock’s Columbus Memorial Park. Peacock’s Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Janie Hyatt Gore; two sons, Jason Glenn Gore and Michael Lynn Gore of the home; and a brother, Keith Gore of Whiteville.
The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Sunday. Oct. 7, at the funeral home.
GLADYS MARIE TAYLOR
LAKE WACCAMAW--Gladys Marie Taylor, 62, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2007, at her residence.
Final rites will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, at The New Townsend Temple First Born Church in Bolton with Pastor Lula Mae Webb officiating. Cremation will follow. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Prentiss Taylor; two daughters, Janice Washington and Joan Slappy of Wilmington; two sons, James E. Williamson Jr. of Whiteville and Rodney L. Williamson of Bolton; seven sisters, Carolyn Woods and Hazel Bennett of Fayetteville, Betty Ann Loman and Lillie Mae Cross of Alabama, Brenda Williams, Mary Howard, and Veola Evans of Wilmington; a brother, Simon King of Georgia.
Viewing will be at the funeral home on Sunday from 3-8 p.m. and Monday from 9-11 a.m. Viewing will be at the church Monday following the service.
Friends may visit the family at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Williamson, 139 Glendale Road in Bolton.

BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- Johnnie Jacob Pringle died on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007.
Final rites were held Friday, Oct. 5, at Armstrong Funeral Home in Brooklyn, N.Y. Burial followed in Forest Green Park Cemetery, Morganville, N.J. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville announced for the family.
BETTIE JO WARD TYREE
CHADBOURN -- Bettie Jo Ward Tyree, 65, died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007, at Southeastern Hospice House in Lumberton. She was the daughter of the late Furman and Lear Cartrette Ward.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, at Worthington Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronald Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in the Whiteville Memorial Cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas Kenneth Tyree of the home; a son, Kenneth Ray Tyree of Whiteville; a daughter, Tammie Hester of Bladenboro; sisters, Ann Ward, Judy Tyree, Ruthine Cribb, all of Chadbourn, Sarah Edwards of Fair Bluff; a brother, Wilbur Ward of Chadbourn; and four grandchildren.

GERDA OVERBECK BLAYLOCK
LAKE WACCAMAW -- Gerda Overbeck Blaylock, 83, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, at Premier Living Healthcare. She was born in Malburg, Germany on Feb. 14, 1924, a daughter of the late Herman and Eilsa Kattkamp Overbeck.
Blaylock taught crochet and knitting classes to senior citizens at Fayetteville Technical Community College. She was instrumental in the establishment of the Hospitality House at Cape Fear Valley Hospital, Fayetteville.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, at Brunswick Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Cummings Woriax officiating. Brunswick Funeral Service of Shallotte is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include three sons, Rolf Kellerman of Orange, S.C., Robert Blaylock of Hope Mills, and Douglas Blaylock of Fayetteville; four daughters, Dagmar K. Wolfertz of Inverness, Fla., Marion Smith of Bolton, Sharon Blaylock of Dallas, and Alexandra Corbin of Gridley, Kans.; 19 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

TABOR CITY -- Odell Fowler, 73, died Monday, Oct. 1, 2007, at his residence. He was born in Columbus County, the son of the late Bud and Clara Hobbs Fowler. He was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard.
Final rites will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, at the Inman Chapel with Dr. Jerome Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Tabor City. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Lillian H. Fowler of the home; two sons, Clark D. Fowler of Fortune, Calif.; Clint O. Fowler of Whiteville; a daughter, Carol R. Fowler of Enterprise, Ala.; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

MSGT GLENN LLOYD SINGLETARY
QUINCY, Ill. -- MSGT Glenn Lloyd Singletary, USAF RET, 74, formerly of Rockingham and Ash, where he resided until 2002, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2007, at Illinois Veteran’s Home. He was born Feb. 11, 1933 in Lumberton, the son of the late John Herman and Minnie Chappell Singletary.
Singletary retired from the United States Air Force having served 24 years. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and Vietnam.
Memorial services with military honors will be held at noon Saturday, Oct. 6, at Peacock’s Chapel In The Pines with the Rev. William L. Chappel officiating. Burial will follow in Peacock’s Columbus Memorial Park.

HATTIE LEE WOODCOCK
CLARENDON -- Hattie Lee Woodcock, 90, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007. Born in New Hanover County on Nov. 4, 1916, her parents were the late John Thomas Eagle and Florence Balcombe Eagle.
Woodcock was a longtime member of Grace Baptist Church of Wilmington. After moving to Columbus County, she was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, at Oleander Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Karl Zorowski officiating. The family will meet friends at the grave site after the service. Friends are invited to visit the family at her home on Monday night, Oct. 1. Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Home of Wilmington is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include a daughter, Dottie Jo Williams and husband, Ben C. Williams of Clarendon; daughter-in-law, Sheila Dewberry Woodcock of Midlothian, Va.; five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Lacy Carrell Woodcock Sr.; and a son, Lacy Carrell Woodcock Jr.

FAIRMONT -- Hattie Bert Baldwin Melton, 75, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007, at Southeastern Regional Medical Center, Lumberton. She was the daughter of the late Bill and Jimmie Baldwin, and the widow of Bobby Melton. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lynne M. Williams.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Floyd Funeral Services Chapel with Rev. Jessie Yarbrough officiating. Burial will follow in Whiteville Cemetery. Floyd Funeral Services of Fairmont is handling the arrangements.

DUBLIN -- Elwood Guyton, 70, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007, at his residence. He was the owner of Guyton’s Floor Covering in the White Oak community.
Final rites will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, at Center Road Baptist Church in Bladenboro with the Reverends Warren Hill, Vernon Britt, and Cameron McGill officiating. WHITEVILLE -- Augusta Lee Collier Davis, 76, died Friday, Sept. 28, 2007, at Columbus Regional Healthcare. She was the daughter of the late James Frederick Collier Sr. and Mildred Augusta Register Collier and was preceded in death by her husband, Robert George Davis.
Davis was a member of Western Prong Baptist Church.
Final rites were held Sunday, Sept. 30, at Western Prong Baptist Church with the Reverends Warren Hill and Stephen Bailey officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. McKenzie Mortuary of Whiteville handled the arrangements.
Survivors include a son, David Davis of Dillon, S.C.; three grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
