DANA HARWOOD
WHITEVILLE -- Dana Harwood, 80, died Thursday evening, Oct. 11, 2007, at Columbus Regional Healthcare. She was born Oct. 7, 1927 in Marston the daughter of the late William C. Green and Cuba Walker Green. She was the widow of Roger W. Harwood. Dana, a loving and beloved mother and grandmother was a devout Christian and a longtime member of the Abundant Life Assembly of God.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, at the Abundant Life Assembly of God with the Reverends Jerry Spivey and Mitchell Smith. Burial will follow in the Union Valley Baptist Church Cemetery. Peacock Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Survivors by two daughters, Brenda C. Harwood of Whiteville, Jan Harwood Turbeville and fiancé, David Edwards of Whiteville; two sons, Arnold Harwood and wife, Vickie of Whiteville and Tommy Harwood of Whiteville; a brother, George K. Greene of Bolivia; two sisters, Ethel Smith of Whiteville andf Juanita Tedder of Hallsboro; 10 grandchildren, Chris Hayes and wife Kim, Megan Hayes, Brett Harwood and wife, Karen, Jo Jo Merritt and wife, Amy, Hannah Shawaka and husband, Jamal, Will Harwood, Whitney Harwood, Jaimie Harwood, Tori Dudley and Katherine Edwards; eight great-grandchildren, Brittany Hayes, Aidan Walsh, Hunter Harwood, Jacob Harwood, Victoria Green, Grant Green, Haley White and Chloe White.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14 at the funeral home.

HOLLY SPRINGS -- Glenn Steele Barnhart Jr., 47, of Holly Springs, died Oct. 8, 2007. He was born in Susquehnna, Pa. to Glenn Steele Barnhart Sr. and Georgette Safranek Betikofer.
A memorial service was held Friday, Oct. 12 at the Chapel of Williford Funeral Home. Williford Funeral Home of Fuquay-Varina handled the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Amanda Shuman Barnhart (formerly of Columbus County) and daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Barnhart; parents, Glenn Steele Barnhart Sr. and stepmother, Connie, Georgette Betikofer and stepfather Robert; sisters, Tammy Flora, Jackie Mills and Janet Taylor; brothers, Tom and Larry Barnhart.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the SPCA of Wake County.

WHITEVILLE -- Annie Belle Edwards Powell, 88, formerly of the Western Prong community, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007, at Shoreland Healthcare & Retirement Center.

MITCHELL HEATH GORE
DELCO -- Mitchell Heath Gore, 37, was called home to spend eternity with our Savior, Jesus Christ of Nazareth on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007, after a long battle with Sarcoidosis. Born on Aug. 5, 1970 in Wilmington, he was raised and resided most of his life in Delco. Heath was a very talented carpenter and enjoyed fishing and outdoor activities.
He is survived by his loving parents, Mitchell “Mickey” Gore and Jean Fowler Gore of Delco; his beautiful daughter, Kyla Brielle Gore of Elizabethtown; his sister, Deana Gore Truesdell and husband Darryl of Delco; a very special nephew, Joshua Darryl Truesdell; many special friends and family members; and a very loving church family.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at First Baptist Church of Delco with Reverends Titus Caraway and Martin Benton officiating. Burial will follow in the Delco Cemetery. McKenzie Mortuary of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
Serving as pallbearers will be Chris Swann, Phillip Fowler Jr., Wes Teller, Eric Schott, Gary Huffham, Johnny Buffkin Jr., and John “Buddy” Cook Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Craig Buffkin, Barry Davis, Gary Buffkin Sr., David Bell and Gene Singletary.

BRUNSWICK -- Nora Frances Roberts Mestyanek, 73, formerly of Grand Gorge, N.Y., died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007, at Southeastern Regional Medical Center, Lumberton.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn with Rev. Dean Carter officiating. Burial will follow at a later date in Halcott Center, N.Y. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Gerald Milo Mestyanek of the home; sons, Lester Mestyanek of New Bergh, N.Y., and Roger Mestyanek of Raeford; daughter, Linda Ann McMullen of Kerhonkson, N.Y.; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Vistation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

MITCHELLVILLE, Md. -- Edgelene T. Galloway, 98, formerly of Supply, died Thursday, Oct. 4, in Maryland.
Final rites will be held at noon Saturday, Oct. 13, at Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Supply. Burial will follow in the Riley-Hewett Cemetery. Smith Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.

WHITEVILLE -- Terry Wayne Watts Davis, 49, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2007, at Duke Medical Center, Durham. She was the daughter of the late Samuel Quincy Watts.

WARRENTON -- Lewis Edward Palmer, 82, formerly of Hallsboro, died Monday, Oct. 8, at the Veterans Medical Center in Durham. He was a veteran of the United States Army.
Final rites will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at New Light Missionary Baptist Church in Hallsboro. Burial will follow in the Hallsboro Memorial Park. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.

WILMINGTON--Cleona Strole Thompson, 80, formerly of Chadbourn, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2007, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center in Wilmington. She was the daughter of the late Rev. Forest L. and Pauline Dyson Strole and the widow of David Jennings Thompson.
Final rites were held Sunday, Oct. 7, at Chadbourn Baptist Church with Rev. Sean Roberds officiating. Burial followed in Chadbourn Memorial Cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn handled the arrangements.

GARY GLENN GORE
WHITEVILLE--Gary Glenn Gore, 50, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2007. He was born Aug. 28, 1957 in Columbus County, the son of the late Curtis Robert Gore Jr. and Doris Memory Gore.
Gore was employed with Georgia Pacific Corporation with 32 years of service. He was Scoutmaster of the Boy Scouts of America Troop 509 for 20 years.
He was also a volunteer for several years with the Whiteville Fire Department.
Final rites were held Monday, Oct. 8, at Peacock’s Chapel In The Pines with the Rev. Corey Wilson officiating. Burial followed in Peacock’s Columbus Memorial Park. Peacock’s Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Janie Hyatt Gore; two sons, Jason Glenn Gore and Michael Lynn Gore of the home; and a brother, Keith Gore of Whiteville.
ROBERT ‘BOBBY’ LeBLANC
BREAUX BRUDGE, La.--Robert “Bobby” LeBlanc 71, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007, at Doctors Hospital in Opelousas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ariel and Lydnia LeBlanc; his brothers, Roy and Ted LeBlanc; and one infant sister, Lydia LeBlanc.
LeBlanc worked for Enterprise Transportation since 1968. He enjoyed hunting, camping and raising a garden. His pride and joy were his grandchildren.
Final rites will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge. Entombment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2 in Breaux Bridge. Pellerin Funeral Home of Breaux Bridge, La is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Amma Lou Blanchard LeBlanc; his sons, James LeBlanc and his wife, Belinda, Johnny LeBlanc and his wife, Shally, all of Breaux Bridge, Jerry LeBlanc and his wife, Dawn Nobles LeBlanc of Whiteville; his daughters, Ruby Venable and Julie LeBlanc, both of Breaux Bridge; his brother, A.J. LeBlanc of Parks; and 12 grandchildren.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 7 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 9 until time of service.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday (today).
