Final rites will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 17, at St. Mary’s Baptist Church with the Rev. Nathaniel Scott officiating. Burial will follow in the George Cemetery, Whiteville. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include a son, John Percell Glover of Whiteville; three brothers, James Willie Jernigan and Jimmy Jernigan, both of Whiteville, and Wayland Jernigan of Lumberton.
Viewing will be at the funeral home on Sunday, Sept. 16 from 3-8 p.m. Viewing will be at the church Monday following the service.
FERNANDO CAMPOS CRUZ
NICHOLS, S.C. -- Fernando Campos Cruz, 15, died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2007, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Born Oct. 20, 1991 in Whiteville, he was the son of Pedro Campos and Teresa Cruz, both of Nichols, S.C.
Cruz was a student at Green Sea Floyds High School.
Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, at Heavenly Hills Cemetery, Loris, S.C. Hardwick Funeral Home of Loris, S.C. is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include his parents and three brothers, Abel Campos Cruz, Rodrigo Campos Cruz, and Pedro Campos Cruz Jr.; and a sister, Sandra Campos Cruz, all of Nichols, S.C.
Visitation will be Tuesday afternoon (today) from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

WHITEVILLE -- John W. Faulk, 59, the son of Bob Farmer and the late Jeanette Smith, departed this life on Sunday, Sept. 9, 2007.

LORIS, S.C. -- Minnie Treadwell, 86, died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007, at Loris Community Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Jannie Moses and Wilson Dorsey.
Final rites were held Saturday, Sept. 8, 2007, at Mitchell Sea Missionary Baptist Church at Green Sea with Rev. Vanzie L. Vereen officiating. Burial followed in Flag Patch Cemetery, Loris, S.C.

MARGARET ‘PEGGY’ PATRICK GASMAN
BOLTON -- Margaret “Peggy” Patrick Gasman, 89, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2007, at her residence. She was the daughter of the late Alexander and Nettie Ann Freeman Patrick and the widow of John Gasman.
Final rites will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, at New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Carter officiating. Interment will follow in the Red Hill Cemetery, Bolton. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include her daughter, Lelia C. CHADBOURN -- Helen Moore, 94, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2007, at Shoreland Healthcare and Retirement Center, Whiteville. She was the daughter of the late David B. and Mary Durant Moore.

DIANE S. BARNHILL
TABOR CITY -- Mylinda Diane Spivey Barnhill, 59, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2007, at Loris Community Hospital following an illness. Born Aug. 23, 1948 in Loris, S.C. she was the daughter of the late Johnny Woodrow Spivey and Sadie Lou Lovette Spivey. She was the widow of Ronald Brantley Barnhill.
Barnhill was owner of Diane’s Beauty Shop and a member of Tabor City Baptist Church.
Final rites were held Saturday, Sept. 1, at Tabor City Baptist Church with Rev. David Coleman officiating. Burial followed at Green Sea Cemetery. Hardwick Funeral Home of Loris, S.C. handled the arrangements.
Survivors include two sons, Brantley Todd Barnhill of Chadbourn, and Chris D. Barnhill of Green Sea, S.C.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
ALICE W. BATTEN
WHITEVILLE -- Alice W. Batten, 82, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2007, in Britthaven of Wrightsville in Wilmington. She was a retired registered nurse graduating from James Walker Hospital.
Visitation will be Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 11 at 1 p.m. until the time of service which follows at 2 p.m. in the Inman Funeral Home Chapel in Tabor City. Burial will follow in the Forest Lawn Cemetery. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include two sons, James Michael Dallas and wife Deborah of Lake Waccamaw, Mickey Sherwin Dallas of Whiteville; a daughter, Billie Jo Samuel and husband Ray of Wilmington; grandchildren, Angela Dallas, Savannah Raymond, and Evan Samuel.
HAZEL STEVENS WILLIAMSON
WHITEVILLE -- Hazel Stevens Williamson, 96, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2007, at Columbus Regional Healthcare.
Williamson was preceded in death by her father, Oscar M. Stevens; mother, Olympia Stevens; her husband, E.W. Williamson; a sister, Blanche Coleman; and a brother, Oscar C. Stevens.
She was raised in Columbus County and received her undergraduate degree from Louisburg College and did graduate work at Pembroke College, N.C. State University and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her career in education covered a span of 41 1/2 years as teacher and principal. She retired in July 1976. At this time she was able to spend her free time working in her garden and cooking meals for friends and shut-ins.
Williamson was an active member of New Hope Baptist Church and dearly loved her Sunday school class. She found time to work for children by serving on the Whiteville City Board of Education; she was also involved in many community activities and was very devoted to her family and friends.
Final rites will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10 at McKenzie Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Roy Walker officiating. Burial will follow in Whiteville Memorial Park. McKenzie Mortuary of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
Williamson is survived by two nieces, Maxine Stephens and Peggy Walters, both of Whiteville; and a nephew, Richard Stevens of Greenville; along with 16 other loving great-nieces and nephews.
For all of us who loved her dearly there are no words to describe how much we will miss her every day. We can only be grateful for all the time we had together and all the lives she has touched in her 96 years.

ASHLEIGH WILLIAMSON WALLING
FAIR BLUFF -- Ashleigh Williamson Walling, 25, died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2007.
Walling was a member of Porter Swamp Baptist Church and received her associates degree from Southeastern Community College.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Wright and Orgie Williamson.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, at Porter Swamp Baptist Church with the Rev. Tim Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Meares Funeral Home of Fair Bluff is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include her son, Jordan Blaze Williamson of the home; her parents, Jimmy W. and Betty S. Williamson of Fair Bluff; her maternal grandparents, Hubert and Jean Stone and numerous aunts, uncles, and friends.

JOHN L. WARD
WHITEVILLE -- John Liston Ward, 77, lost his battle with cancer, Friday, Sept. 7, 2007. He was born May 6, 1930 in Columbus County, the son of the late Arthur and Alice Ward.
Ward retired after 30 years with Rexnord Manufacturing in Milwaukee, Wisc. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in Korea with the military police.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, at Peacock’s Chapel In The Pines with Rev. David Kelly officiating. Burial will follow in Peacock’s Columbus Memorial Park. Peacock’s Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Ward; a son, Jay Ward of Hubertus, Wisc.; two daughters, Lynn Rzepny of Milwaukee, Wisc. and Diane Kramer of Muskego, Wisc.; two brothers, Roy Ward of Whiteville and Lloyd Ward of Gresham, Wisc.; two sisters, Grace Williams of Shallotte and Pearl Whaley of Nakina; and four grandchildren.
