The Columbus County Board of Commissioners will host a public hearing tonight on extending the length of time for issuing bonds for Water District V from seven to 10 years.
The bonds total $5.7 million and were previously approved with the inception of the water district, but due to the delay in the actual use of those funds, the county manager is asking the board to extend the time period for the bonds.
Water District 5 is located in the southern portion of the county and borders large portions of Horry County, S.C. Work is underway in that portion of the county now and water lines are under construction in the Guideway and Dothan communities. Last week a groundbreaking related to sewer infrastructure coming to that portion of the county through an agreement with Grand Strand Water and Sewer took place.
Other agenda items include: A request to change the organizational chart of the Sheriff’s Department, a veteran’s department update and a travel and tourism update. The first reading of a revised fixed asset policy and discussion of a policy proposal for internal auditing are also on the agenda. Adoption of a resolution in support of a secondary road program and an update on special water district taxes in Water Districts II and III are also planned.
Commissioners meet at 6:30 p.m. in the Dempsey Herring Court Annex. (Nicole Cartrette)
