LAKE WACCAMAW - Ethan Ward pitched a shut out over the final six innings and No. 9 hitter Jeremy Ward drove a game-deciding, two-run single Thursday night for the South Columbus Stallions in a 4-3 Waccamaw Conference baseball victory over the host East Columbus Gators.
It was the fourth straight win for Coach Willie Gore’s Stallions, who now hold a 9-5 record with a 3-4 mark in Waccamaw Conference play.
SCHS gained revenge for a 7-2 homefield loss to East Columbus in their earlier conference game.
East Columbus got all its runs in the first inning behind a lead-off double by Alex Williamson, a single by Alex Sasser and a triple by Demetrius McKelvie.
The loss put East Columbus’ conference record at 5-3 and the Gators are 8-7 overall.
South Columbus will travel to play West Columbus tonight at 7 in a non-conference game and will entertain Pender on Tuesday in a conference doubleheader.
East Columbus will play Tuesday at North Brunswick at 7 p.m.
