History Question

Where was Brinkley
Depot, Brinkleyville and Brinkland?

Answer

Keeping track of Brinkley Depot, Brinkleyville and Brinkland was confusing for postal workers, plus the general public.
The Daily Review of Wilmington informed its readers on May 26, 1881 how to handle the confusion.
Brinkley Depot’s post office was known as Robeson and was located on the Wilmington, Columbia & Augusta Railroad (originally the Wilmington & Manchester). This is now Delco in our eastern area.
Even more confusing is the fact that Robeson Station was a railroad stop – only by the use of a flag or conductor’s knowledge of a passenger needing to get off there – on the Carolina Central Railroad (originally the Wilmington, Charlotte and Rutherford).
Mail for people in the vicinity of Robeson Station was to be addressed to Armour, still the name of a community in our county.
And, then there was Brinkland Post Office. It was in Bladen County.
