Gators to take on
Kentucky team
Friday at Ripken

The East Columbus High School baseball team will go against Brenkinridge County High School of Hardinsburg, Ky., Friday at 2 p.m., at the Cal Ripken Experience at Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The Breckinridge County Tigers are one of several teams from outside the Carolinas spending their spring break in the Myrtle Beach area to gain more warm-weather play.

ECHS coach Karl Bracey was contacted about playing the game prior to the season.

For the past four years, East Columbus had played in the Myrtle Beach High School Baseball Showcase at Coastal Federal Field, but that event this season was in conflict with last week’s Jiggs Powers Memorial Baseball Tournament.

East Columbus, now carrying a 3-0 record in Waccamaw 1A-2A Conference play, is scheduled to play host to Whiteville tonight at 7 in a key conference game. Whiteville will bring a 3-1 league record into tonight’s contest.
