History Question

How did Boardman get
its present name?

Answer

Edwin B. Wright was president of the new group of Columbus County lumbermen which took over the old Butters mill. Wright’s middle name – Boardman -- was perfect for a lumber business and the community.
The Butters group moved to Bladenboro in Bladen County after many years here of logging and shipping lumber from Robeson, Bladen and Columbus counties. The present community of “Butters” is just west of Bladenboro.
