Gators belt Kentucky squad 12-1

On Friday, the Gators took a 12-1 victory over Breckinridge County, Ky., at Myrtle Beach, S.C. East Columbus, now carrying a 6-4 record, is scheduled to play host to Whiteville tonight at 7.

MYRTLE BEACH. S.C. - By scoring eight runs in the top of the fifth inning Friday, the East Columbus Gators put an early ending to its baseball clash with Breckinridge County High of Kentucky at the Ripkin Experience.

The game was halted at the end of the fifth by the 10-run rule.

The Gators got three each hits by second baseman Allen Bracey and outfielder Demetrius McKelvie. Bracey had two doubles.

ECHS coach Karl Bracey used four pitchers - Caleb Andrews, Laython Ward, Houston Barnes and C.H. Ganus - as ECHS moved its season record to 6-4 Breckinridge was held to three hits.

The Gators led 4-1 after four innings before exploding for their eight-run fifth inning.
“It was a beautiful day and we played on a beautiful field ... it was a good outing for us, ” Bracey said. “Breckinridge has a pretty good team ... they just seemed to run a little short on pitching today.”

East Columbus, which currently leads the Waccamaw 1A-2A Conference with a 3-0 record, will play host to Whiteville tonight at 7 in a key conference game. The game was postponed by rain last Thursday night.
