RIEGELWOOD -- Cora Lee Stevenson, 87, died Thursday, April 17, 2008, at The Brunswick Cove in Leland.
Final rites will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, at Mt. Pleasant AME Zion Church with the Rev. Donald Mapson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include a brother, Woodrow Jones of Philadelphia, Pa.
Viewing will be at the funeral home on Monday, April 21 from noon until 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9-11 a.m. The family will receive friends Monday from 6-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Friends may visit the family at the home of Sandra Keith, 3838 Old Stage Road, Riegelwood, N.C.

CHADBOURN -- Josephine B. Hill, 85, died Friday, April 18, 2008, at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.
Arrangements will be announced by Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville.

WHITEVILLE -- Flora Mae Ford, 87, died Wednesday, April 16, 2008, at home. She was the daughter of the late James P. Mack and Mary F. Johnson.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 20, at Mitchell Sea Baptist Church in Green Sea, S.C. with the Rev. Tonie Vereen officiating. Burial will follow in the Mitchell Cemetery. Westside Funeral Home of Tabor City is handling the arrangements.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, April 19 at the funeral home.

TABOR CITY -- Billie Hansley Lancaster, 81, died Wednesday, April 16, 2008, at Loris Healthcare. She was born in New Hanover County, the daughter of the late William Thomas Hansley and Blanche Clark Hansley.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 18, at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Wilmington. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include two daughters, Joan Elliott of Green Sea, S.C. and Jean Blue of Bennettsville, S.C; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 17 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

CLARKTON -- Detese Devon Norris, 43, died Monday, April 14, 2008.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, April 18, at Bladen Funeral Home. Bladen Funeral Home of Elizabethtown is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Lynn Noel Norris of the home; two sons, Jeremy Edwards of Elizabethtown and Brandon Edwards of Clarkton; a daughter, Erica Denise Norris of Fayetteville; and two step daughters, Tiffany Phillips of Fayetteville and Candice Phillips of Elizabethtown; his father and step mother, Sharon Norris and Susan Horne Norris; his mother, Carolyn Daniels Norris; four sisters, Carola Lynn Jordan of Loris, S.C., Kelsi Long of Nakina, Rayeanne Buchanan of Clarkton, and Shana Horne of Fair Bluff; a grandchild and a step-grandchild.
Visitation will be held from 5-6:45 p.m. at the funeral home Friday, April 18.
GENICE BARNES
TABOR CITY -- Genice Barnes, 73, died Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at Loris Community Hospital. Born in Horry County, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Willie H. and Allie Fowler Turbeville. She was the widow of William Henry Barnes.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 17, at the Inman Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Tabor City. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City is handling the arrangements.
She is survived by two sons, Mike Barnes and Steve Barnes, both of Tabor City; a daughter, Shirley Dew of Tabor City; a brother, Roland Turbeville of Tabor City; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, April 15 at the funeral home.

COUNCIL -- Porter McKoy, 84, died Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at Bladen County Hospital.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 19, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Clarkton. Burial will follow in the Carver Creek Cemetery in Council. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Resea McKoy; daughter, Berryl McKoy of the home; sisters, Lonice Davis and Ruby Bobbitt of Brooklyn, N.Y.; brother, James P. Shipman of Oxford; and a grandson.
Viewing will be at the funeral home on Friday from noon until 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until noon. Viewing will be at the Kingdom Hall one hour prior to the service, and there will be no viewing after the service.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

EVERGREEN -- Thomas “Sam” Dawson, 69, died Friday, April 11, 2008, at Columbus Regional Healthcare.
Final rites will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, at St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church in Evergreen with the Rev. Dr. Nathaniel Scott officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. D&A Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include his daughters, Patricia Ann Dawson of Evergreen, Martha Jane Davis of Chadbourn; Patricia Black of Whiteville; sons, Carl Dawson and Preston Dawson, both of Evergreen, Michael Dawson of the home, and stepson, Chuck Wheeler of Cleveland, Ohio; sisters, Juanita Gainey, Inez Lennon, Iona Apple, all of Evergreen, Geraldine Whittaker and Shirley Mae Evans, both of Whiteville.
Viewing will be held from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service.
MARGARET ATKINSON
EDWARDS
WHITEVILLE -- Margaret Atkinson Edwards, 78, died Monday, April 14, 2008. She was predeceased by her husband, David Earl Edwards.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 17, at Bladen Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Bladen Memorial Gardens in Elizabethtown. Bladen Funeral Home of Elizabethtown is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include four sons, Stephen Edwards of Clarendon, Billy Edwards of Richmond, Va., Timothy and Junior Edwards, both of Bladenboro; three daughters, Alice Davis of Bladenboro, Shirley Bryan of Dublin and Brenda Benson of Whiteville; a brother, Douglas Atkinson of Dublin; two sisters, Elizabeth Edwards of Dublin and Tiller Ruth Caulk of Bladenboro; 23 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Vistation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 16 at the funeral home.
MARY HOLLOMAN HOOKS
WHITEVILLE -- Mary Holloman Hooks, 97, died Monday, April 14, 2008, in Columbus Regional Healthcare. She was born Feb. 24, 1911 in Kershaw County, S.C. the daughter of the late Adam Dupree Holloman and Carrie Bell Conyers Holloman. She was the widow of Dewey Hooks. She was also preceded in death by daughters, Louise Tidwell and Carrie Davis; a grandson, Bruce Davis.
Mrs. Hooks was the oldest active member of First Baptist Church in Whiteville, a member of the Newton Sunday School Class and Sunshine Group. She was well known for baking six layer cakes, chocolate being the flavor of choice.
Final rites will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, April 17, at First Baptist Church by Rev. Kendell Cameron. Interment will be in Peacock’s Columbus Memorial Park. Peacock’s Chapel In The Pines is handling the arrangements.
She is survived by three sons, Ernest Davis and wife, Violet of Luggoff, S.C., Joe Hooks and wife, Mary of Whiteville, Terry Hooks and wife, Tammy of Ocean Isle Beach; a sister, Elma Radcliff of Sumter, S.C.; grandchildren, Donnie Tidwell, Butch Davis, Barry Davis, Joseph Hooks, Hunter Hooks, Ian Hooks, Ronnie Tidwell, Heath Hooks, Sydney Hooks, Patricia Parker and Tammy Rountree; eleven great grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren; a special friend, Ruth Johnson of Whiteville.
Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 16 at the funeral home.
