NATHAN JOE JENRETTE


WHITEVILLE -- Nathan Joe Jenrette, 48, died Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at Columbus Regional Healthcare.


Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 5, at New Light AME Church on Dothan Road in Tabor City with Rev. J.U. Batts officiating.

Burial will follow in the Flag Patch Cemetery in Loris, S.C. S&L Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include her five sisters, Retha Pierce Sturdivant of Atlantic Beach, S.C., Leola Jennette of New York, N.Y., Elizabeth Jenrette of Whiteville, Theresa T. Vereen of Dothan, and Nora J. McCullough of Loris, S.C.; six brothers, Jessie Pierce and Harold Jenrette both of Dothan, Jerry Jenrette of Grand Junction, Colo., Olander Jenrette and Ernest Jenrette both of Longs, S.C., and Clifton Bill Jenrette of Loris, S.C.

JAMES BUIE McLELLAND


KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. -- James Buie McLelland, 84, lost his battle with cancer on March 22, 2008. He was born on Feb. 10, 1924, in Chadbourn the son of the late Barber and Lillie Potter McLelland.


McLelland served in the United States Marine Corps for eight years, four of those years in the Mediterranean and the South Pacific during World War II. He contract filariasis and was sent back to the Marine barracks in Klamath Falls to recuperate. While there he served as a military policeman. He worked for many years for Southern Pacific Railroad until an accident in which he lost his arm and a leg forcing him to retire. He was a charter member of the Elks, a Mason and a Shriner, and also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.


A service of tribute was held at the Eternal Hills Chapel on Wednesday, March 26. Eternal Hills Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home handled the arrangements.


He is survived by his wife, Gerrie; daughter, June Bellm; a brother, Edward McLelland; sisters, Barbara Anne Herring, Janice McLelland, Mary Jackson, and Wanda Barfield; and a grandson.


He was preceded in death his brothers, O.W. McLelland and Frank McLelland and sisters, Betty Caulkins and Lucille Sheppard.

WILLIAM ‘WILL’
EUGENE JOHNSON III


EVERGREEN -- William “Will” Eugene Johnson III, 28, died Sunday, March 30, 2008, in Richmond, Va.


Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 3, at Chadbourn Presbyterian Church with Reverends Robert Link and Paul Layton officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen United Methodist Church Cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.


He is survived by his wife, Nancy Griffin Johnson of the home; a daughter, Kayley G. Johnson of the home; a son, Wiley E. Johnson of Chadbourn; his parents, William E. “Johnny” and Constance “Connie” Varner Johnson of Chadbourn; two sisters, Jennifer Johnson of Evergreen and Susan Burton of Altamonte Springs, Fla.; maternal grandparents, Dorothy and Wayne Varner of Royston, Ga.

JAMES FOWLER


WHITEVILLE -- James Fowler, 75, formerly of the Farmers Union community, died Saturday, March 29, 2008, in Loris, S.C.


Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 4, at Union Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Cleo Williamson officiating. Burial will follow in the Cherry Grove Cemetery. Union Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.


He is survived by his wife, Sharon Fowler; children, Dameion Fowler, Jameion Fowler, James Fowler Jr., Marlene Tiebout, and Virginia Hill; five brothers, Sam Fowler, Walter Fowler, William Faller, George Fowler, and West Fowler; and two sisters, Louise Gordon and Etta Sadler.


Viewing will be held from 1-6 p.m. Thursday, April 3 at the funeral home and on Friday until time of the service.

GENE NORRIS


WHITEVILLE -- Gene Norris, 61, Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at his home. He was born in Columbus County, the son of the late W. Ralph Norris and Elneta Todd Norris.


Norris was a veteran of the United States Army.


Final rites will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 4, at the Inman Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Stephen Bailey officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Tabor City. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City is handling the arrangements.


He is survived by a daughter, Ashley Daly of Clarkton; two brothers, Wayne Norris of Wilmington, Ralph Daylon Norris of Thomasville; and two grandchildren.


Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, April 4, at the funeral home.

AMMA LOU B. LEBLANC


BREAUX BRIDGE, La. -- Amma “Lou” B. LeBlanc, 70, passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at Doctor’s Hospital of Opelousas, La.


“Lou” was a dedicated housewife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed camping, cooking and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Sundays at the LeBlanc home brought great joy to her by having all of her children come for lunch - it was a day of true family gathering and family love.


Final rites will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 3, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge with Fr. Allen Breaux, associate pastor of St. Bernard Church, officiating. Gift bearers will be her grandchildren. Pellerin Funeral Homes Inc. of Breaux Bridge, La. is handling the arrangements.


Survivors include three sons, James LeBlanc and his wife, Belinda, Johnny LeBlanc and his wife, Shally, all of Breaux Bridge, La., and Jerry LeBlanc and his wife, Dawn Nobles LeBlanc of Whiteville; two daughters, Ruby Venable and Julie LeBlanc, both of Breaux Bridge, La.; two sisters, Willa Mae Noel and Winola Hebert, both of Breaux Bridge, La.; and her grandchildren, Robert Venable, David Venable, Elizabeth Venable, Arielle LeBlanc, Claire LeBlanc, Daelyn LeBlanc, Krista LeBlanc, Kelsie LeBlanc, Grant Martin, Lydia Martin, Summer Martin, and Abbie LeBlanc.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bobby” LeBlanc; and her parents, Robert and Noelie Thibodeaux Blanchard.


The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 1-10 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2 and continue at 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Thursday.


A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.


Pallbearers will be her three sons, James, Johnny, and Jerry LeBlanc, Robert and David Venable, and Eddie Noel.

ESTELLE TRIPP CARLISLE


ASH -- Estelle Tripp Carlisle, 89, died Monday, March 31, 2008, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center at Myrtle Beach, S.C. She was the daugher of the late John William Tripp and Emma Smith Tripp and the widow of Sammie Everette Carlisle.


Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 3, at the Carlisle Family Cemetery in Ash. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City is handling the arrangements.


She is survived by two sons, Johnny Everette Carlisle and Kenneth K. Carlisle, both of Ash; two daughters, Mildred M. Stevens and June Carlisle, both of Ash; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.


Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 2 at the funeral home.

ELIZABETHTOWN -- Lottie Carwell Herring, 87, died Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation Center.


Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 3, at Bladen Funeral Home Chapel with Reverends Scott Lewis and Curtis Herring officiating. Burial will follow in Bladen Memorial Gardens. Bladen Funeral Home of Elizabethtown is handling the arrangements.


She is survived by three daughters, Geraldine Sawyer and Margaret Batten, both of Elizabethtown; and Lottie Hedwin of Mullins, S.C.; three sons, Curtis Herring of Thomasville, and Ernest Herring and Eston Herring, both of Elizabethtown; 17 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.


Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 2 at the funeral home.
