NAKINA -- Hezekiah Stanley, 89, died Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at his residence. Mary Stanley Coleman, 62, died Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at Columbus Regional Healthcare.


The funerals will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 27, at Zion Plain Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Freeman Gause officiating. Burials will follow in the George Washington Stanley Cemetery. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.


Stanley is survived by his wife, Mary Gladys Stanley; daughters, Felicia Stanley, Lettie F. Jenrette, Anna Stanley, all of Sunset Beach, and Katrina Frazier of Suitland, Md.; sons, Neamon Stanley, Avery Stanley, Arthur Stanley, all of Nakina, and Kenneth M. Stanley of Tabor City; and sister, Ella Mae Lewis of Tampa, Fla.


Coleman is survived by her husband, Billy Coleman; daughters, Jacqueline Floyd, April Coleman, and Heather Coleman, all of Whiteville, and Jennifer Sutherland of Florida; sons, Arthur Stanley of Nakina, and Billy T. Coleman of Gastonia; mother, sisters, and brothers, are listed above.

Viewing will be t the funeral home on Saturday from noon until 8 p.m. Viewing will be at the church Sunday one hour prior to the service and again following the service.

CHRISTOPHER A. HINES


BLADENBORO -- Christopher A. Hines, 52, died Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at Singletary Home Care.


Final rites will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at St. Luke AME Zion Church. Burial will follow in the Brooklyn Memorial Gardens. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville ish andling the arrangements.


Survivors include his father, Walter R. Hines of Bladenboro; brothers, Walter Hines Jr. of Elizabethtown, and Earl Hines of Bladenboro; sisters, Gloria Perry of Elizabethtown, Deborah Peterson and Elizabeth Hines, both of Bladenboro.


Viewing will be at the church Saturday one hour prior to the service and again following the service.


Friends may visit the family at the home of Walter Hines, 7306 N.C. Highway 211, East, Bladenboro.

JOHN JUNIOR KELLY


ELIZABETHTOWN -- John Junior Kelly, 86, died Thursday, April 24, 2008. He was preceded by his wife, Myra Louise Everett Kelly; father, Frank and step-mother, Fannie Martin Kelly.


Kelly worked as a meat manager at A&P and retired after 30 years. He then worked at Goldston’s Red & White and retired after 18 years.


Final rites will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 27, at Elizabethtown Baptist Church with Dr. David Elkes, Reverends Ecwood Lancaster and Cameron McGill officiating. Burial will follow in the Elizabethtown City Cemetery. Bladen Funeral Home of Elizabethtown is handling the arrangements.


He is survived by his son, John Robert Kelly of Elizabethtown; three daughters, Beth Nance and Carolyn Lancaster, both of Elizabethtown, and Susan Baggett of Rocky Mount; and six grandchildren.


Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, April 26 at the funeral home.

LORA ALICE LUDLUM


GOLDSBORO -- Lora Alice Ludlum, 69, formerly of Bladenboro, died Thursday, April 24, 2008. She was born in Bladenboro the daughter of Bradley Everett Ludlum and wife, Themla Dowless Ludlum. She was preceded in death by her half-brother, Brady Lewis Ludlum of Bladenboro.


A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, April 25, at the Church of Latter Day Saints in Goldsboro with Bishop Steven Briggs officiating. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 26, at Storms Cemetery in Bladenboro. Family will receive friends following the graveside service at Galeed Baptist Church in Bladenboro. Bladen Funeral Home of Elizabethtown is handling the arrangements.


She was survived by her brother, Everett Butler of Bladenboro and two half-brothers, Bobby Ray and Carolton Richard Ludlum, both of Bladenboro.

Visitation will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

BEATRICE WINNIE
ROGERS SESSOMS


WHITEVILLE -- Beatrice Winnie Rogers Sessoms, formerly of Fayetteville, died Thursday, April 24, 2008, at Shoreland Healthcare. She was the daughter of the late Leonard and Winnie Rogers and the widow of Clinton Taft Sessoms.


Final rites will bel held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 26, at Lafayette Memorial Park in Fayetteville. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.
She is survived by a daughter, Carol Prevatte Hanson of Lake Waccamaw; sons, Leonard Prevatte of Fayetteville and Lanion “Buddy” Prevatte of Whiteville; 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.


Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Friday, April 26 at the funeral home.

LINDA FAYE EARNHARDT


NAKINA -- Linda Faye Earnhardt, 62, died Saturday, April 19, 2008, at her residence. Born in Brunswick County, she was the daughter of the late Chancey and Estelle Smith. She was the widow of Everette Earnhardt; and predeceased by her son, Ricky Allen Suggs.


Graveside services will be at noon Saturday, April 26, at Harley Ford Cemetery in Tabor City. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City is handling the arrangements.


She is survived by a daughter, Terry Lynn Faircloth of Chadbourn; a sister, Brenda Lou Todd of Chadbourn; and a daughter-in-law, Jeanne Suggs; and four grandchildren.

CORBETT RICHARDSON
MILLS


HIGH POINT -- Corbett Richardson Mills, 91, died Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at High Point Regional Hospital. He was born Feb. 10, 1927 in Horry County, S.C. son of the late Oscar Corbett Mills and Lelia Suggs Mills.


Mills was a retired employee of Clyde Pearson Furniture and attended Trinity Baptist Church. He served in the United States Army and was preceded in death by a brother, Lloyd Mills.


He was married Aug. 23, 1960 to Mary Williams Mills who survives of the home. Also surviving are two daughters, Vickie Smith and husband Wesley of Trinity, and Cynthia Hoyle and husband Rex of Kernersville; two step sons, Leroy Beckwith of Nashville, Tenn. and Bobby Williams and wife Patience of New Jersey; two sisters, Virginia Blanton and husband Wilbur of Longs, S.C., and Pauline Edgerton of Colorado Springs, Colo.; three brothers, Thomas Mills of Longs, S.C., Don Mills of Whiteville, and Junior Mills and wife Mary of Thomasville; eight grandchildren, Tommy Roberts, Leonard Sonner, Nehemiah Sonner, Cameron Hoyle, Chandler Hoyle, John Beckwith, Dawn Williams and Regina Williams; two great-grandchildren, Brittney Roberts and Destiny Roberts and one on the way.


Funeral services will be conducted Friday, April 25 at 2 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church with Reverends Ken Evans and J.C. Alley officiating. Burial will follow in the Floral Garden Park Cemetery. J.C. Green & Sons, Inc. is handling the arrangements.


The family will be at the church Friday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service and at other times at the home.

SHELBY JANE LYTLE


BOLTON -- Shelby Jane Lytle, 53, died Wednesday, April 23, 2008, in Lower Cape Fear Hospice, Wilmington. She was born April 29, 1953 in Columbus County, the daughter of Arthur J. and Mildred B. Patrick Freeman. She was formerly a longshoreman with the N.C. State Ports.

Final rites were held Friday, April 25, at Peacock's Chapel In The Pines. Peacock's Chapel In The Pines handled the arrangements.


She is survived by two sons, Tracy D. King and Thomas N. King, both of Bolton; four brothers, Robert Patrick, Samuel Freeman, James Albert Freeman and Claudie Jacobs, all of Bolton; three sisters, Gertrude Cummings, Linda Jacobs and Lucy Oxendine, all of Bolton; and three grandchildren.

THOMAS J. BURNEY


FAYETTEVILLE -- Thomas J. Burney, 61, died Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at Bladen County Hospital in Elizabethtown. He was a retired veteran of the United States Air Force.


Final rites will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, April 28, at Windsor United Methodist Church in Elizabethtown with the Rev. Tim Reaves officiating. Burial will follow in the Jones Cemetery in Clarkton. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.


He is survived by his wife, Teresa Burney; daughters, Aluxus Burney and Lauryn Burney of the home; sons, Thomas Keith Burney and Devon A. Burney of California; sisters, Crettie Jacobs and Brenda Burney of Clarkton, and Leona Cromartie of Lisbon; brothers, Alphonso Burney of Clarkton and Rudolph Blanks of Elizabethtown.


Viewing will be at the funeral home on Sunday, April 27 from 2-8 p.m. and Monday from 9-11 a.m. Viewing will be at the church Monday one hour prior to the service, and there will be no viewing after the service.

CLARKTON -- Lorice Swindell Blackwell, 93, died Monday, April 21, 2008, at her residence.


Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 25, at Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Eddie L. Swindell officiating. Burial will follow in the Clarkton Community Cemetery. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.


Survivors include her daughters, Annie Lee McClelland, Daisy Mae Blanks, Brenda L. Bowens, and Letitia Freeman, all of Clarkton, Willa Mae Brown of Bladenboro, and Myrtle Edna Haynes of Lumberton; sons, Samuel Swindell of Charlotte, Rev. Eddie Swindell of Newton Grove, James Ervin Swindell of Clarkton, and Carl Gene Swindell of Madison.


Viewing will be held at the funeral home from noon until 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. until noon. Viewing will be at the church Friday one hour prior to the service and again following the service.

CASTLE HAYNE -- Alpha Jane Manasco Goins, 82, formerly of Winston-Salem, died Monday, April 21, 2008, at her residence. She was the daughter of the late Robert Wilson and Artie Lee Elliott Manasco, and the widow of Claude Goins.


Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 24, at Worthington Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Rodney Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Chadbourn Memorial Cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.


She is survived by two daughters, Claudia G. Raines of Wilmington, and Janey Goins Taylor of Concord; brothers, James Clifford Manasco of Beaverdam, Ky., and Robert Junior Manasco of Hillsboro, Ohio; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

CLARKTON -- Lillie Lee Walker Boswell, 72, died Monday, April 21, 2008, at her residence. She was the daughter of the late George Franklin and Annie Ruth Duncan Walker Sr.


Final rites will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, April 25, at Worthington Funeral Home Chapel with Reverends Barry Helms and Larry Priest officiating. Burial will follow in the Walker Family Cemetery in Chadbourn. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.


She is survived by her husband, Billy Carlton Boswell of the home; daughters, Patricia B. Boswell of Clarkton, and Cynthia “Cindy” Boswell of the home; a son, Carlton “Billy” Boswell of Clarkton; sisters, Annie W. Bowen, Barbara Bass and Bobbie Lou Cribb, all of Whiteville; brothers, George F. Walker Jr., Robert Herman Walker, David M. Walker, Leon Walker, and Roger Walker, all of Chadbourn; and three grandchildren.

CECIL GODWIN


BOLTON -- Edgar Cecil Godwin, 81, died Monday, April 21, 2008. He was born Nov. 4, 1926 in Union County, the son of the late Sandy D. Godwin and Colon Baucom Godwin.


Godwin owned and operated E.C. Godwin Logging Company, was a veteran of the United States Army 82nd Airborne, a member of Bolton Baptist Church, a member of Redbone Hunting Club and a former member of Waccamaw Riding Club.


Final rites with military honors will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 24, at Bolton Baptist Church with the Rev. Tex Floyd officiating. Burial will follow in the Lake Waccamaw Hillcrest Cemetery. Peacock’s Chapel In The Pines is handling the arrangements.


He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Lunsford Godwin; a son, Michael Godwin of Bolton; daughters, Sherrie Godwin Russ of Riegelwood and Pamela Godwin Carroll of Hope Mills; a sister, Ercel Godwin Simpson of Monroe; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.


The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 23 at the funeral home.

CHADBOURN -- Josephine B. Hill, 84, died Friday, April 18, 2008, at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.


Final rites will be held at noon Saturday, April 26, at First Baptist Church in Chadbourn with Rev. Lionel Cartwright. Burial will follow in Belvue Cemetery. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.


She is survived by her daughters, JoAnn Batie-Smith of Baltimore, Md., Sarah Briggs of Whiteville, and Danyce Hill of Lumberton; sons, James Earl Hill of Chadbourn, Joseph Lester Hill of Columbia, S.C., Franklin Suggs of Whiteville, and Arthur Edward Hill of Cleveland, Ohio.

LORIS, S.C. -- Jerry Hemingway died on Thursday, April 18, 2008, at Loris Community Hospital.


Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 24, at Mitchell Sea Baptist Church in Green Sea, S.C. with Rev. Vanizie Lee Vereen officiating and Elder Nathan Gause delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow in Flag Patch Cemetery in Loris, S.C. Westside Funeral Home of Tabor City is handling the arrangements.


Survivors include his wife, Adline Bennet Hemingway of the home; two daughters, Lisa Livingston and Melissa Campbell; a son, Earl Hemingway; his father, William Hemingway; his mother, Virgie Hemingway; and his step mother, Dea Hemingway.

CERRO GORDO -- Gwendolyd Wright, 49, died Friday, April 18, 2008, at home.


Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 24, at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church in Tabor City with Rev. Kennis Rolle officiating and Elder Leon Williams giving the eulogy. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. S&L Funeral Home of Fair Bluff is handling the arrangements.


She is survived by a daughter Dorothy “Dottie” Wright Pearson; a son, Lamont Wright; seven brothers, Rodney Ford, James Wright, Chris Wright, Jeff Wright, Anthony Wright, Earl Wright Jr., and Dwight Wright; three sisters, Tamisha McBride, Crystal Wright, and Rhonda Wright; and three grandchildren.

He is survived by his parents, James V. and Janice L. Peterson of Elizabethtown; paternal grandparents, James W. and Pauline Peterson of White Lake; maternal grandparents, Truman and JoAnn Mote of Harrells and maternal grandmother, Sandra Lewis of Elizabethtown. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Walter Lewis.

FLORENCE, S.C. -- Naomi Diane Powers Grant, 65, formerly of Evergreen, died Friday, April 18, 2008, at her residence.

She is survived by her husband, Willard E. Grant of the home; a son, Tony Lee Freeman of Raleigh; and two grandchildren.

THURMAN KELLY


CLARKTON -- Thurman Kelly, 75, died Friday, April 18, 2008, at Columbus Regional Healthcare. He was the son of the late Harry Lee Kelly and Lena Byrd Kelly. He was preceded in death by two sons, John Patrick Kelly and James Michael Kelly. He served in the United States Army.


Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 21, at Western Prong Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Warren Hill officiating.


He is survived by his wife, Sandra Lee Parker Kelly of Clarkton; a son, Joe Kelly and wife Cathy of Laurinburg; three daughters, Sharon Kelly of Clayton, Vicky Kelly of Creedmoore, and Heather Wilson and husband John of Pittsboro; and a daughter-in-law, Sandra R. Cain of Elizabethtown; five grandchildren, John Patrick Kelly II, Leighanne Kelly, Meghan Kelly, Caitlin Kelly and John Wilson Jr.


Memorials may be made to the Western Prong Baptist Church Building Fund.

SARAH ELIZABETH
JORDAN CARROLL


CALABASH -- Sarah Elizabeth Jordan Carroll, 91, died Saturday, April 19, 2008, at Columbus Regional Healthcare. She was the daughter of the late Thaddeus Burns Jordan and Laura Ellen Nye Jordan.


Carroll was a lifelong member of Shiloh United Methodist Church in Bolton and was a retired registered nurse from Sampson County Memorial Hospital in Clinton. She retired in 1982.


Final rites will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 22 at McKenzie Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Ed Vogt officiating. Burial will follow in Lake Waccamaw Hillcrest Cemetery. McKenzie Mortuary is handling the arrangements.
She is survived by a daughter, Velma C. Pope and husband Donald of Riegelwood; and a granddaughter, Tanya Elizabeth Rawls and husband Derek of Atlanta, Ga.


Visitation will be held from 1-2:50 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home prior to the service.


Pallbearers will be William Long, Leroy Carroll, Frank Carroll, Tim Jordan, Jimmy Jordan and Derek Rawls.
