Lake election is Feb. 26

Lake Waccamaw’s special election for a single commissioner’s seat will be held Feb. 26.

The date was incorrectly reported in Thursday’s edition.

Daniel Hilburn, a Highway Patrol trooper who was appointed to the post in January last year, is the only candidate on the ballot.

Mail-in absentee ballots will be available Jan. 28, and registration closes Feb. 1. One-stop absentee voting – the popular “No Excuses” voting – begins Feb. 7 and ends at 1 p.m. Feb. 23.

Only one polling place, the Lake Waccamaw Fire Department, will be open on Election Day. Polls will open at 6:30 a.m. on Election Day and close at 7:30 p.m.
