Waccamaw Academy celebrated its 2008 Homecoming Friday night.

The evening was highlighted by the crowning of WA senior Caroline Scott as 2008 Homecoming Queen. Lauren Strickland was crowned WA Homecoming Princess.

Another big highlight came when the Warrior boys basketball team took a 67-47 victory over longtime Southeastern Independent Conference rival Flora Macdonald Academy.

The Warriors trailed 18-9 after one quarter, but Coach Andy Watts’ Warriors squad turned up the tempo in the second quarter to take a 32-26 halftime lead.

With a scout from College of Charleston in the stands, Waccamaw Academy center Chris Richardson did not disappoint, scoring 19 points, grabbing 13 rebounds, blocking three shots and making three assists.

The 6-foot-7 Richardson got plenty of help in the scoring column as Austin Storms tallied 13 points, Justin Smith scored 12 and Iyub McAllister 10.

The Warrior season record now stands at 12-8

Flora Macdonald’s Matt McKenzie scored a game-high 20 points and Travis Wilson followed with 15 as the Cougars fell to the Warriors for the second time this season.

Flora Macdonald won the girls game 46-31 with Brittany Arrington leading the win with 11 points.

FMA led at halftime 21-11 en route to posting their second win over the Lady Warriors this season.

Caroline Scott and Lauren Strickland each scored 11 points for Waccamaw Academy.

Waccamaw Academy will travel to take on Harrells Christian Academy on Thursday.
