ROWLAND - The South Robeson Mustangs, fresh off winning the Robeson County Shoot-Out Tournament, romped past the visiting South Columbus Stallions 68-52 in a non-conference boys basketball game Saturday. In the girls game, Kelly Strickland canned three, 3-point shots and finished with 14 points as the South Columbus girls came away with a 42-35 win over the Lady Mustangs. South Robeson jumped to a 17-8 first-quarter lead and led 26-14 at halftime of the boys game. Cory Thompson and Kyle Oxendine each scored 13 points to lead South Robeson. South Columbus was led by Derrick Clay’s 18 points. Amanda Dowe joined Strickland in double figures for the SCHS girls team as she scored 10 points. N. Sinclair was high scorer for South Robeson with 18 points. The score at halftime was knotted at 19 before South Columbus took the upper hand in the third quarter with a 16-point effort. South Columbus, which played host to Waccamaw Conference rival East Columbus on Wednesday (see result in A-section), will play Friday at Pender. GIRLS GAME
