CLARKTON -- Naomi Carr Hunter, 77, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008, at Columbus Regional Healthcare.

MYRA LOUISE EVERETTE KELLY


ELIZABETHTOWN -- Myra Louise Everette Kelly, 82, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008.


Kelly was retired from Wachovia after more than 30 years of employment.


Final rites will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, at Elizabethtown Baptist Church with Dr. David Elks and Rev. Cameron McGill officiating. Burial will follow in the Elizabethtown City Cemetery. Bladen Funeral Home of Elizabethtown is handling the arrangements.


She is survived by her husband, John Junior Kelly of the home; a son, John Robert Kelly of Elizabethtown; three daughters, Beth Nance and Carolyn Lancaster, both of Elizabethtown, and Susan Baggett of Rocky Mount; two brothers, William J. Everett of Merritt Island, Fla., and James D. Everett of Pinehurst; and six grandchildren.


Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, at the funeral home.

CHRISTINE CARTRETTE BOWEN


EVERGREEN -- Christine Cartrette Bowen, 74, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2008, at her residence. She was the daughter of the late James Vollie and Agnes Sellers Cartrette, and the widow of Thurman Bowen.


Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, at Evergreen Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Ward officiating. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.


She is survived by a daughter, Bobbie Jean Bowen of the home; a son, Jeffrey L. Bowen of Evergreen; sisters, Doris Ann Storms of Clarkton, Mary C. Ward of Fayetteville, and Irma C. McPherson of Clarkton; brothers, Floyd Cartrette of Clarkton, Paul Cartrette of Apex, and Larry Ray Cartrette of Clarkton; and a grandchild.

MAUDE ‘PRINCIE’ McDUFFIE


COUNCIL -- Maude “Princie” McDuffie, 84, died Saturay, Jan. 26, 2007, at her residence. She was predeceased by her parents, John Ivan and Clemmie Susie Dodd; her husband, Novelee “Dock” McDuffie; three brothers, George, David, and Johnny Dodd; and a sister, Melba Dodd.


Final rites will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, at Council Baptist Church with Reverends Jack Miller and Leroy Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Horeb Presbyterian Church. Bladen Funeral Home of Elizabethtown is handling the arrangements.


Survived by three sons, Jerry R. McDuffie, Vergil L. McDuffie, and Daniel B. McDuffie, all of Council; a brother, Jack I. Dodd of Council; two sisters, Helen Comeford of Smithfield and Virginia Fredere of Elizabethtown; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

SUPPLY -- Curtis Blackman, 74, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2008, at Memorial Hospital in Pembroke Pines, Fla.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian C. DANIEL LENNOX JERNIGAN


TABOR CITY -- Daniel Lennox Jernigan, 50, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2008, at his residence. He was born in Columbus County, the son of Fred McCoy Jernigan Jr. and Nancy Gore Jernigan. He was a United States postal carrier.


Final rites will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, at New Life Baptist Church with Reverends Johnny Jenerette and Mike Watford officiating. Burial will follow in Myrtle Green Cemetery in Tabor City. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City is handling the arrangements.


He is survived by his wife, Sharon Edwards Jernigan of Tabor City; three sisters, Anne Jernigan and Shawn Elliott, both of Tabor City, Linda Jordan of Longs, S.C.; four brothers, Fred McCoy Jernigan III of Tabor City, Robert Mark Jernigan of North Myrtle Beach, S.C., John Howell Jernigan and James Matthew Jernigan, both of Wilmington; his parents, Fred M. and Nancy G. Jernigan Jr. of Tabor City; nieces and nephews, John Lennox Jernigan, Joshua Daniel Jernigan, Jaclyn Stewart Ray, Savannah Lee Elliott, Presley Grace Jernigan, Luke Matthew Jernigan, Kamryn Shaye Taylor, James Thomas Taylor, Kyle Benjamin Block, and Austin Eugene Block.

GROVER Z. ‘BUD’ WILLIAMSON JR.


GREEN SEA, S.C. -- Grover Z. “Bud” Williamson Jr., 72, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008, at Loris Healthcare. He was born in Horry County, S.C., the son of the late Grover Zebedee and Lila Gay Williamson.


Williamson was a member of Green Sea Baptist Church, and a member of the mens Sunday school class, and a deacon. He was a retired road supervisor with Horry County Public Works.


Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at Green Sea Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Nugent officiating. Burial will follow in the Williamson Cemetery in Green Sea. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City is handling the arrangments.


He is survived by his wife, Betty C. Williamson of the home; a son, Rusty Williamson of Green Sea, S.C.; a daughter, Dean Fowler of Green Sea, S.C.; two sisters, Eloyce Little of Georgetown, S.C., Betty Fipps of Tabor City; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

JAMES GUY KINLAW


BLADENBORO -- James Guy Kinlaw, 53, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008, at Bladen County Hospital in Elizabethtown. He was predeceased by his parents, James Marvin and Lona Kinlaw; and a sister, Jane Smith.


Final rites will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at Sandy Grove Baptist Church in Bladenboro with Rev. Warren Hill officiating. Burial will follow in Bladen Memorial Gardens in Elizabethtown. Bladen Funeral Home of Elizabethtown is handling the arrangements.


Survivors include two sons, Brett and Cameron Kinlaw, both of Elizabethtown; two sisters, Josie Willoughby and Elizabeth “Lib” Bordeaux; and a stepdaughter, Angela Perkins.

CLARKTON -- Fuller Campbell, 80, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008, at Columbus Regional Healthcare.


Final rites will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at Rehobeth AME Zion Church with Rev. Johnas M. Freeman officiating. Burial will follow in the Mitchell Field Cemetery. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.


Survivors include his wife, Josephine Spaulding Campbell; daughters, Lisa Betts and Connie McMillian of Belcamp, Md., and Blondell Greene of Baltimore, Md.; sons, Larry Campbell of California and Michael Campbell of Bladenboro; stepsons, Milton C. Spaulding of Caseyville, Ill. and Eric V. Spaulding of Selma; sisters, Amy Irving, Delphia Burney, and Earlene Townsend of Clarkton; and a brother, Lemuel Campbell of Clarkton.


Viewing will be at the funeral home on Friday, Jan. 25 from noon until 7 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Viewing will be at the church Saturday following the service. There will be a wake Friday from 6-7 p.m. at the funeral home chapel.

CAROL MARY WALL


WHITEVILLE -- Carol Mary Wall, 76, formerly of Pennsylvania died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008, at Columbus Regional Healthcare. She as born in Queens, N.Y., the daughter of the late John and Vivian Quilligan.


A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at Peacock’s Chapel In The Pines with Rev. Marcos Leon-Angulo officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Peacock’s Chapel In The Pines is handling the arrangements.


She is survived by her husband, Edward Wall of Olyphant, Pa.; three daughters, Rosanne Wall and Terri Lynn Stephens, both of Whiteville, Sue Wall of Surfside Beach, S.C.; a sister, Virginia Ruth Schroeder of Bethpage, N.Y.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by daughters, Mary Ellen Wall Kalnoski and Rhonda Clark; and a son, James Matthews.

DONALD D. McCLENEY


CHADBOURN -- Donald D. McCleney, 80, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008, at Columbus Regional Healthcare. He was the son of the late Robert L. and Estelle W. McCleney. He was the husband of the late Barbara Spivey McCleney.


McCleney was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the United States Army.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, at Piney Forest Baptist Church with Reverends Willard McPherson and Hubert McCleney officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.


He is survived by two sisters, Patricia M. McIntosh of Summerfield and Virginia M. Wright of Tempe, Ariz.; and a brother; William L. McCleney of Willow Springs, Mo.

SHELBY JEAN NORRIS


CHADBOURN -- Shelby Jean Norris, 56, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008, in New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, as the result of an automobile accident. She was born in Horry County, S.C., the daughter of Minnie Greenwood Cribb Jernigan and the late Shelby Cribb.


Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, at the Inman Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Tabor City. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City is handling the arrangements.


She is survived by two sons, William Norris and wife Judy of Chadbourn, Adam Shelby Norris of Whiteville; two daughters, Josette Harrelson and husband Wes of Wilmington, Tara L. Inman and husband Randon of Whiteville; two brothers, Jimmy Cribb and wife Tammy of Rocky Point, Richard Jernigan of Leland; three sisters, Linda Kincaid and husband Greg of Castle Hayne, Kim Blake and husband Terry of Leland, Yvonne Jernigan and friend Denise Lewis of Wilmington; her mother, Minnie Greenwood Cribb Jernigan of Wilmington; five grandchildren, Brooke Norris, Brittany Norris, Brandy Norris, Dylan Inman and Daniel Baggett; special friends, Sandra and John Malpass, Michelle Strickland, John Carter Strickland, and Christopher Davis Strickland.

SHIRLEY ANN GORDON


MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- Shirley Ann Gordon, 54, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center in Myrtle Beach. She was the daughter of the late Rev. William Astor Gordon and Sarah Faulk Gordon.


Final rites will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, at Shield Chapel Holiness Church in Myrtle Beach with Rev. Frank Burgess officiating. Burial will follow in the Heavenly Hill Cemeterty in Loris, S.C. Westside Funeral Home Inc. of Tabor City is handling the arrangements.


Survivors include four sisters, Flossie Gerald, Geraldine Gerald, Brenda Knox, and Rosa Jordan; two brothers, Williams Pepper Gordon and Calvin Gordon, all are from Loris, S.C.


Visitation will be held from 7-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24.

LORETTA HOHNSBEHN


HALLSBORO -- Loretta Kay Hohnsbehn, 56, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2008, at her home. She was born Jan. 19, 1952 in Halifax County, the daughter of the late Clarence and Scretha Smiley Wayne.


Hohnsbehn was a phlebotomist in the medical industry. She was an active member of Honey Hill Baptist Church and a member of Florida Frontiersmen and enjoyed pre-1840 atmosphere. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed children.


A memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at Honey Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Ricky Martin officiating.


She is survived by her husband, Rex M. Hohnsbehn; a brother, Elton Wayne of Lynchburg, Va.; three sisters, Jo Ellen Caulder of Hallsboro, Brenda Carroll of Shawnee, Okla. and Janet Blake of Wilmington. She was preceded in death by a brother, Thurman Wynne.

RICHARD FRANKLIN MICKEY JR.


LAKE WACCAMAW -- Richard Franklin Mickey Jr. died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington after a brief illness with pancreatic cancer. He was born Sept. 5, 1929 in Forsyth County, the son of the late Richard Franklin Mickey Sr. and Nannie Short Mickey.

Mickey retired as operations manager at Union Carbide Corporation, Energizer Battery Division. After retirement he worked to establish a business incubator program for the Small Business Development Center in Whiteville.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean War, achieving the rank of First Lieutenant. He graduated from Mineral Springs High School in Winston-Salem, and received degrees from High Point University and UNC-Chapel hill. After moving to Lake Waccamaw, he was a faithful member of Lake Waccamaw United Methodist Church and enjoyed singing in the choir.


Final rites will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, at Lake Waccamaw United Methodist Church with Rev. Doug Currin officiating. Burial will follow in Lake Waccamaw Hillcrest Cemetery. Peacock’s Chapel In The Pines is handling the arrangements.

He is survivoed by his wife, Mary Waggoner Mickey; a son, Richard Franklin (Lin) Mickey III and wife, Susan of Waxhaw; two daughters, Susan Mickey and husband, Roger Foster of Austin, Texas and Patty Mickey Lyerly of Lake Waccamaw; a brother, Bobbie Joe Mickey and wife, Debbie of Tennessee; grandchildren, Sarah Brynn Lyerly, Chris Lyerly, Jonathan Mickey, Benjamin Mickey, Daniel Mickey; nieces and nephews, Cheryl Wilson, Leigh Smith, Trevor Mickey, Ann Long, Martha Waggoner, Dr. Robert L. Pyles, and James C. Pyles.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22 at the funeral home.

BOLTON -- Eddie  Lee Temoney, 56, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.

Temoney was a veteran of the United States Navy and employed by Dupont.

Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at Walter's Chapel AME Zion Church with Rev. Christopher Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Riegelwood. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Sheila Faye Temoney; a daughter, Katrina T. Freeman of Raleigh; his sons, Travis Freeman of Charlotte and James Freeman of Fayetteville; his sisters, Patricia Cooper of Bishopville, S.C. and Anna Ellison of Wilmington; his brothers, Ronnie Temoney of Bishopville, S.C., Hezekiah Temoney of Fayetteville, Herbert Temoney and Robert Temoney, both of Wilmington.

Viewing will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, Jan. 23 from noon until 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9 a.m. until noon. Viewing will be at the church Thursday one hour prior to the service and again following the service.

There will be a wake Wednesday from 6:30-8 p.m. at the funeral home chapel.

HOWARD BAREFOOT


PORT CLINTON, OHIO -- Howard Barefoot, 88, formerly of Columbus County, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008.


Final rites will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, at McKenzie Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ed Vogt officiating. Burial will follow in Pierce Cemetery in Hallsboro. McKenzie Mortuary is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include his daughters, Karen Barefoot of Charlotte and Linda B. Merritt of Wilmington; his son, Howard DeWayne Barefoot of York, S.C.; his sisters, Helen Pope of Hallsboro and Margie Lanehart of Clarkton; his stepdaughter, Kathy Pratt of Port Clinton, Ohio; his stepsons, Bob Ish of Oak Harbor, Ohio and Ricky Ish of Port Clinton, Ohio; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, and six step-great-grandchildren.


CHARLIE WARD


WHITEVILLE -- CharlieWard, 81, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008, at Columbus Regional Healthcare. He was the son of the late Major Ward and Velma Pierce Ward.


He was a member of Cornerstone Freewill Baptist Church. He worked as a security guard for the Columbus County School Systems for 20 years and was also a farmer.


Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, at Cornerstone Freewill Baptist Church with the Reverends Steward Norris and Brooks Sikes officiating. Burial will follow in the Batten Cemetery. McKenzie Mortuary of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.


Survivors include his wife, Mary Madagelene Price Ward of Whiteville; two sons, Charles Ervin Ward of Whiteville, and Donald Ray Ward of Holden Beach; four sisters, Ruby W. Canady of Whiteville, Rachel Reynolds of Wilmington, Carrie W. Beasley of Whiteville, Lela Mae W. Porter of Shallotte; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

BRUCE McDONALD SPIVEY


TABOR CITY -- Bruce McDonald Spivey, 85, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, at Loris Community Hospital in Loris, S.C. He was born in Columbus County, the son of the late Cannie Albert Spivey and Dosia Wright Spivey. He as a United States Navy veteran of World War II.


Final rites were held Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Inman Funeral Home Chapel in Tabor City with Reverends Russell Long and Tony Larrimore officiating. Burial followed in the Spivey Cemetery in Tabor City. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor Cty handled the arrangements.


He is survived by two daughters, Wendy Sarvis of Conway, S.C., Emily Simmons of Leland; two sons, Byron Dale Spivey of Tabor City, Darryl Spivey of Westchester, Ill.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

CHASEALYNN BROOKE INMAN


CERRO GORDO -- Chasealynn Brooke Inman, 11-month-old daughter of Tonia Nicole Godwin and Jonathan Albert Inman died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008, at University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Buddy Maney.


Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, at Worthington Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverends Eddie Green and Jeremy Rease officiating. Burial will follow in the Chadbourn Memorial Cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.


In addition to her parents she is survived by a sister, Malayah Nicole Inman of the home; a brother, Michael Blake Hayward of Wilmington; maternal grandparents, James M. “Buddy” and Renee Godwin of Cerro Gordo, Diane and Tommy Hall of Elizabethtown; paternal grandparents, Sharon Inman and Robert Rigdon of Hallsboro.

GREGORY ALLEN WARD


EVERGREEN -- Gregory Allen Ward, 40, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008, at his residence.
He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.


Final rites were held Sunday, Jan. 20, at Macedonia Baptist Church near Evergreen with Reverends Vernon Williamson and Linzy Nance officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn handled the arrangements.


He is survived by his wife, Renee Forrester Ward of the home; a son, Lawson Ward of the home; a daughter, Sarah-Ivey Ward of the home; his parents, Rossie and Wilma Little Ward of Whiteville; his grandmother, Zelma Stocks Little of Lexington; and a sister, Renee Ward Blackmon of Whiteville.

WINDELL SMITH


NAKINA -- Oliver Windell Smith, 80, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2008. He was born May 13, 1927 in Columbus County the son of Oliver Smith and Ada Milliken Smith. He was a retired farmer.


Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, at Happy Home Baptist Church with Dr. David Peterson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Peacock’s Chapel In The Pines is handling the arrangements.


He is survived by three sons, W.C. Smith and wife, Shirley; Edison Lee Smith and wife, Mary Jane and Harold Dean Smith, all of Nakina; a daughter, Eva Teleky and husband, Steve of Ash; a brother, Fred Smith of Nakina; a sister, Jerusha Bell Rhodes of Nakina; six grandchildren, Marie Peacock and husband, Kyle of Lake Waccamaw; Stevie Teleky and wife Misty of Tabor City, Patricia Blackwell and husband, Herman of Chadbourn, Tamatha Smith of Chadbourn, Joni McMillan and husband, Shannon of Chadbourn and Toni Smith of Nakina; 13 great-grandchildren, Laney Peacock, Kayla and Noah Teleky, Kenny, Coy, Jasey, Kelby and Wesley Blackwell, Casey and Stacey Smith, Shane McMillan, Kaley and Kaleb Smith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Erma Ruth Smith.

WILLIAM JACK LITTLE SR.


CLARKTON -- William Jack Little Sr., 86, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2008, at his home. He was born in Bladen County to the late Henry Frank and Ora Elizabeth Little.


Following his United States World War II military service, he was a teacher, dairy farmer, coach, and a leader in his church and community.


He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57-years, Wanda White Little; his sister, Vena Hood; and his brothers, Brooks, James, Max, Ralph, and Steve Little.


He is survived by two daughters, Faye Singletary and husband, Neill of Clarkton, and Jane Hair and husband, Wynn of Wilmington; two sons, Jack Little and wife, Lisa of Wilmington, and David Little and wife, Reba of CLarkton; two brothers, Ben and Charles Little, both of Clarkton; six grandchildren, Laura Singletary, Kate Watts, Chip Singletary, Charlie Hair, Wendy Hair, and Brian Little; and eight great-grandchildren.


Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, at Clarkton Presbyterian Church with Reverend Stuart Link officiating. Burial will follow in the Clarkton Cemetery. Bladen Funeral Home of Elizabethtown is handling the arrangements.


Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be Brian Little, Charlie Hair, Chip Singletary (who is currently deployed due to his active military status), Clinton White, Eric Campbell, Bill Little, Troy Little, and Paul Watts.
Visition will be held from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21 at the funeral home.

DORIS ELLIS LONG


LELAND -- Doris Ellis Long, 82, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008. Born in Columbus County her parents were the late Raymond Clayton Ellis and Mittie Alma Bordeaux Ellis.


Doris enjoyed cooking for her sons and enjoyed her flowers.


Final rites will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, at the Chapel of Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service, 3915 Oleander Drive, Wilmington. Entomblement will follow at 2 p.m. in Columbus Memorial Park Mausoleum in Whiteville. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.


Doris is survived by her sons, Robert Timothy “Tim” Long of Leland, Oscar Robertus “Sonny” Long III of North Augusta, S.C. and William Allen Long of Leland; grandchildren, Oscar R. “Robbie” Long IV and wife Denise of Monroe, Rebecca F. “Becky” Long and fiancé, Franz Oberbauer of Leland, Melissa A. Long and Zachary A. Long, both of Wilmington; great-grandchildren, Madison Long, Jessica Long and James Long and Layla Sunshine Penberthey; a brother, Raymond Clayton Ellis Jr.; sisters, Reta Ellis Hinson and Annette Ellis Lee, all of Whiteville; and a sister, Bonnie Harper of Kinston. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Robertus Long Jr. in 2002 and a sister, Naomi Ellis Keziah.
